Since its launch in December of last year,Marvel Rivalshas been consistently adding iconic heroes to its already well-rounded roster on a consistent basis.
Most recently, Blade joined the roster as part of theSeason 3.5 update. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe film continues to be stuck in limbo, at least we get to play Blade in one of our favorite hero shooters, right?
NetEaserecently confirmed that they haveenough new characters lined up for the next 12 months. Based on leaks, we can expect some more fan favorites, such as Deadpool, joining the roster.
But what about original heroes that don’t exist anywhere else within the Marvel universe? That’s more likely than you may think.
NetEase Confirms That They Can Make Original Heroes For Marvel Rivals
Speaking withMP1st, Guangguang confirmed that they are “allowed to introduce original characters in Marvel Rivals.” Beyond that, Guangguang didn’t give any concrete details on how soon we can expect an original character, other than telling fans to “stay tuned.”
While the choice to develop and create original characters for Marvel Rivals over utilizing the extensive library of heroes from Marvel’s history may seem controversial, technically, this wouldn’t be the first time this has happened.
Luna Snow, one of the more popular heroes in Marvel Rivals, was created for the mobile game Marvel: Future Fight. It’s something that’s mentioned byMarvel themselvesas they explain the character’s backstory as a K-pop singer.
Unlike many characters in the Marvel Universe, Luna Snow’s first appearance wasn’t in a comic book, movie, or television show, but rather in the popular video game MARVEL FUTURE FIGHT.
The game established Luna’s backstory and powers when she joined the roster in January 2018 alongside several original K-pop singles to launch the character to the world stage. Following her success as a playable character, Luna Snow joined Marvel’s comic book universe the subsequent year.
The fact that there are already past successful examples highlights that NetEase designing a brand new Marvel hero from scratch may not be the worst idea in the world. We’ll see if they’ll become as popular as Lunda Snow has. As for the next popular heroes to come to the game, NetEase says thatfan voting is taken into heavy considerationwhen making their choices for upcoming seasons.
