While the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcases have recently been dominated by people doing their best to make a certain indie game appear, there’s still always plenty of nice surprises during these events.
One of those nice surprises is the return of theKatamari Damacyfranchise, which will release its first new game in 14 years this fall with Once Upon a Katamari.

Speculation began in March whenBandai Namco filed a new trademark, hinting at a new game in the Katamari franchise. One thing that stood out at the time was that the naming convention indicated it would be a new release rather than a remake or remaster. Gameplay details are a bit light currently, but hey, it’s Katamari Damacy, we all know what’s up.
Once Upon a Katamari looks to be more of the same, which is a good thing, mind you. This time around, you’ll be able to roll your katamari through historic eras, including Edo, Japan. I’m looking forward to causing chaos through historical eras and landmarks like never before.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Katamari Damacy without a killer soundtrack, and Once Upon a Katamari looks to deliver, with new and returning artists, including the following:
You’ll be able to customize your appearance and play in online KatamariBall multiplayer with up to four players as well. Those who pre-order the game will get access to three face customization parts. In addition to the base game, you’ll have your chance to pick up the Once Upon a Katamari King of all Sounds Edition, which includes two DLC packs, 60 songs from the series, and 26 costumes from past games.
