Controversy Regarding Nojiko inOne PieceLive-Action

A major point of contention during the live-action adaptation ofOne Piecewas that fans of the original series felt that the actresses and actors did not bear a strong enough resemblance to their roles. The character that was most talked about because of this issue was Nami’s adoptive sister from Cocoyasi Village, Nojiko.

Fans initially complained that Nojiko had a different skin color in the manga and the anime which questioned the relativity of the story. In theOne Piecelive-action series, Nojiko is played by Chioma Umeala, which sparked controversy and although it didn’t affect the series much, it surely was not good for the story, as fans were able to point out another mistake that the creators did in the series.

Nojiko and Nami

In a video posted on YouTube about the topic of controversy against Nojiko inOne Piece, fans pointed out the real reason why they had problems with the character in general. Anime Fans Had Problems With Nojiko’s Tattoos

In the originalOne Pieceanime and manga, the tattoos that Nojiko got had a meaning behind them. Nojiko is shown as a strong, helpful sister in both the manga and the anime. She got her tattoos because she didn’t want Nami to feel alone in her quest to gather berries and free the village from Arlong’s control.

But in the live-action show, instead of being supportive, she hated her sister for years because she was unaware of her true plan. Therefore, the tattoos never made any sense in theOne Piecelive-action series. However, they were still there, making them completely irrelevant.
