The Officeremains one of the best sitcoms to have graced the television industry. The show was iconic back then and will continue to be iconic for years and years to come. Starring Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and more, the sitcom was blessed with a cast that put the ‘Ha!’ in ‘Hilarious.’ Thus, it is no wonder that we have come to believe that these exceptionally talented actors would improvise their dialogues from time to time. After all, some lines are so raw, we can’t possibly think otherwise.

“We decided that maybe that was going too far”: ‘The Office’ Nearly Made Melora Hardin the Most Hated Woman That Made Cersei Lannister Look Good

In fact, Krasinski stated that ninety percent of what’s seen on TV is done exactly as the writers intended it to be. While he added that no one believes him when he makes this revelation, he also wants us to know that the show was blessed with some of the best comedic brains since the days of the humor magazine, ‘National Lampoon.’

“We decided that maybe that was going too far”: ‘The Office’ Nearly Made Melora Hardin the Most Hated Woman That Made Cersei Lannister Look Good

People always ask me, ‘Oh, man, how much of the Office is improvised?’ and I go, ‘Ninety percent of the time it was exactly what the writers wrote.’ Nobody ever believes me. I mean, we truly had one of the greatest brain trusts of comedy since probably, like, early [National] Lampoon days.

Well, if you still don’t believe Krasinski, don’t worry. You’re most probably not the only one who doesn’t!

‘The Office’ Actress Was Shocked by the Lack of Improvisation

Later, Daniels called her up and asked her to be a small part of his show and she simply couldn’t say no and didn’t miss a beat before saying yes.

I had just done No Country for Old Men and I’d worked with Greg Daniels on King of the Hill. When the strike ended, he called me and said, ‘We want you to play Rainn Wilson’s date and former babysitter.’ I was like, ‘Oh, my God, from the beet farm?’ Needless to say, I said yes very quickly.

Now, Grant was under the impression that everyone on the show was a master of improvisation but her bubble burst when she actually read the script and realized just how incredible everything was.

She stated,

I heard they improv’d a lot, but when I read the script I was like, ‘My goodness, they don’t need any improv on this. This is just fabulous.’ It almost read like a [Harold] Pinter play because it was so literary.

So, the next time you’re doing your annualThe Officebinge-watching and marveling at how natural everything feels, remember this: it’s not just great acting, but also the genius of the writers.
