A feature thatNintendofans have been asking for since the launch of the original Switch could be coming to Switch 2 next year, one that will finally change the aesthetic of the home screen for good.

One of the biggestissues with the Wii Uwas its slow start-up time. Not only was the console already weaker than its contemporaries, but the loading for pretty much everything was abysmally slow. When the Nintendo Switch was released, all of its menus and UI were designed to be as minimalistic as possible, in order to alleviate this issue.

Nintendo May Have Accidentally Revealed A Bunch Of Nintendo 64 Games Coming To Nintendo Switch Online

A dedicated group of fans has spotted several N64 games not present in the Nintendo Switch Online service in a recent trailer.

The Nintendo Switch 2 and its predecessor only feature two themes, Basic Light and Basic Dark. That may soon change, as noted leaker Nash Weedle is claiming on Twitter/X that Nintendo will add more themes to the Switch 2, but theywon’t arrive until next year. As with all rumors, this should be taken with a grain of salt until it’s confirmed.

Nintendo Switch 2 Could Be Adding Themes In 2026

There’s currently no information on what the themes will involve or whether they’ll be paid DLC. If the leak is correct, then it’s surprising that it took this long, considering fans have been giving Nintendo money for a while.

The Nintendo 3DShad many themes, which could be randomly loaded upon booting up the system. These could change the background, home screen music, and sound effects for the console. They were likely scrapped for performance reasons, especially following the negative feedback to the Wii U’s loading times, but the superior hardware of the Switch 2 should hopefully be able to handle it.

If the themes are returning to Nintendo systems, then they’ll hopefully be revealed during therumored July 2025 Direct. Nintendo’s schedule badly needs some solid release dates, so a theme announcement would have to slot in along those reveals.
