RetroNintendofans have finally got their wish, as it was revealed that Nintendo Switch 2 is adding GameCube games to its online service, but only to those who pay for the higher tier.
Currently, the Nintendo Switch Online service offers NES, SNES, and Game Boy titles, while paying for the Expansion Pass grants access to the N64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. Fans have been wondering when more systems would be added, with most assuming the GameCube would be next.

Nintendo Switch 2’s Mysterious C Button Lets You Chat With Friends
The Nintendo Switch 2 will use the mysterious C Button to access the new GameChat feature, allowing players to video chat and share their feed.
It was revealed during the first Nintendo Switch 2 Direct (as seen on the Nintendo of America YouTube channel) that GameCube titles will be added to Nintendo Switch Online’s Expansion Pass, but only on Nintendo Switch 2.

The GameCube Titles Confirmed For Nintendo Switch 2 So Far
The trailer confirmed that F-Zero GX, Soulcalibur II (the one with Link), and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, will all be available when GameCube titles launch on Nintendo Switch 2, when it’s released on August 18, 2025.
It was also confirmed that Super Mario Sunshine, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, Super Mario Strikers, Chibi-Robo, Luigi’s Mansion, and Pokemon Colosseum will also be added to the service in the future.
There are a few notable omissions from the library, notably Eternal Darkness, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Super Mario Kart: Double Dash. Hopefully, these will be added later.
It was also confirmed that a new wireless GameCube controller will also be released, and the game app will let players remap the controls to their desire. Surprisingly, a lot of Nintendo fans already own/use GameCube controllers, as the Nintendo Switch had an adapter for them, mostly for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
The arrival of Nintendo GameCube games to Nintendo Switch 2 is a huge boon to the console, and if it does get Super Smash Bros. Melee in the future, then it might be finally time for a generation of gamers to dump their CRT TVs and move on to new hardware.
