Switch 2 pre-ordersfinally opened today in the US, and, unsurprisingly, they’ve been a mess. It’s getting scalped hard on eBay, but Nintendo fans have found a novel way to fight back.
Spotted byNintendeal on XandIGN, eBay has been flooded with fake Switch 2 listings at around retail price.

The goal of these fake listings is to push the scalpers as far down the page as possible, drawing attention away from them and showing off how inflated some of their prices are, withone in particular going for as high as $2,000.
Selling Images At Retail Price
Most of the fake listings on eBay, like those in the image above, the top 5 results when I searched for the Switch 2, are technically selling pictures of the console, and they make this fact abundantly clear in the descriptions.
One listingfor $499.99 says, “THIS IS A LISTING TO PREVENT BOTS/RESELLERS ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS” and “do not buy if you are a human….if you’re a bot buy 12!”

Anotherlisted for $500 writes, “This is a picture of a Nintendo Switch 2!! Do not buy this! If you pay for it, I will mail you a literal PICTURE of a Switch 2. This listing is to combat bts and sclpers. Be warned!”
There’s alsothis onewiththe Mario Kart World bundlefor $525, and it has a similar disclaimer in the description.

There are dozens of these fake listings, most of which have a note to read the description in the name, and there are always some being deleted as more are posted.
Select Switch 2 Cartridges May Be Playable On The Original Switch
According to statements in a recent publisher FAQ, some Switch 2 games appear to be backward compatible with the original.
The Switch 2 is still a couple days outside eBay’s stated 40-day limit for pre-orders, since it launches in 42 days on June 5, but the scalpers don’t seem to care.
With Nintendoopenly admitting their inability to keep upwith the demand for the Switch 2, it’s unfortunately not surprising that it would be such a huge target for scalpers, but it’s interesting to see the community coming up with inventive ways of resisting them.
