At the latest PlayStationState Of Play, we were given a release date trailer for the upcomingMetro AwakeningVR title, which will bereleased on November 7th on PlayStation VR 2, Metaquest, and Steam VR.

We’ve already been introduced to the brilliant combination ofMetroandStalker’s post-apocalyptic Russian atmosphere with the immersive qualities of VR within other titles likeInto The Radius, so it’s great to see a new look at one of the most promising upcoming VR games.

A follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima is coming in 2025.

Like previous Metro games, the latest look at Awakening is infused with slow-paced horror and exhilarating action, all encompassed in tunnels and metro stations underneath a nuclear winter engulfed Russia.

WhileAwakeningis more of a spin-off game, separate from Artyom’s story defined in theprevious three games, its core campaign is still placed in the same setting. Instead, it examines the backstory of Kahn, who was present in the previousMetrogames.

Metrois easily one of themost fitting seriesfor a VR-exclusive title.The games already boast highly immersive elements like inventory management, separate face mask and watch controls, and immersive gun mechanics, all of which are perfect for VR.

The latest trailer also highlights the game’s use of psychological spectacles, such as exciting hallucination scenes reminiscent of earlier titles likeMetro Last Light. Given how deeply some parts ofMetrohave delved into science fiction, we’re excited to see what else they have in store.

While a new VR title for the franchise may not be what many fans would have wanted, this trailer is a good sign thatAwakeningwill be a fittingMetroexperience. At the very least, developers have confirmeda separate mainline Metro titleis on the way.
