For the longest time since its inception, the streaming giant Netflix has been the home of television, movies, and entertainment. But with changing times, the goals of the streaming giant have changed too and it is now venturing forth in the world of sports. After making a deal to stream WWE RAW exclusively on the platform, Netflix is taking big steps in the world of F1 as well.

While it already made the sport popular thanks to itsDrive to Survivedocuseries, it is now aiming to livestream the sport in the US as well. However, before taking such a huge step, the platform has some big technical issues to fix.
Netflix wants the live broadcast rights of F1 in the US
Sports events, for the longest time, have been broadcast live on television. But in recent years, this has been changing with the rise of streaming platforms. Now Netflix wants a part of it, too, as it has been eyeing the streaming rights of Formula One in the United States.
After its highly popularDrive to Survivedocuseries, which gives exclusive behind-the-scenes details of what goes on in the Formula One World Championship, the streaming giant wants to further step into the world of F1. ESPN currently broadcasts F1 across the US, but the deal made in 2018 will now be expiring by the end of 2025.

Given this situation and the sudden rise in popularity the sport has received in recent years, also thanks toDrive to Survive, Netflix wants to milk in the opportunity, which is sure to yield more than favorable results for the platform. The platform has been looking to expand its reach in sports and recently has taken some measures to do so, like appointing former ESPN’s Vice President of Production Kate Jackson as the new Director of Sports (viaThe Athletic).
Netflix has issues to fix before it moves to live-streaming
Netflix has been trying to sweep into the sports live-streaming sector for some time now. After paying over $150 million to broadcast two NFL games last year (viaThe Athletic), Netflix is also the official home for WWE RAW starting this year in the US, Canada, the UK, Latin America, and more countries that will be added over time (viaNetflix).
Moreover, it has secured the rights to stream the FIFA Women’s World Cup in the US for the years 2027 and 2031 (viaNetflix). However, as it moves further into this realm, it needs to fix the many issues plaguing its streaming service.

Recently, it streamed the highly anticipatedboxing match betweenthe boxing legendMike TysonandJake Paul, but the service was riddled with glitches. Viewers experienced constant buffering and freezing issues, leading to many of them missing some iconic parts of the bout, making the whole experience a failure.
