Neo Berlin 2087 will be atGamescomin Cologne, Germany, 2025. Surely nothing bad will happen in the next 62 years.
Today, in anticipation of the upcoming event, the developers and publishers of the project at Elysium Game Studio have released a trailer with a sizzle-reel of story content and a good taste of action gunplay.

We see a solid variety of shooty-shooty-bang-bang, broken up with takedowns and slow-mo dive attacks. A bit ofMax Paynehere, and a touch ofDeus Exthere, forms a game one commenter described as looking “both cheap and expensive at the same time.” A sentiment that seems to be fairly common among folks online.
Neo Berlin 2087 describes itself as “A unique, third- and first-person action role-playing game,” according to itsSteam page. It’s a sentiment echoed in the video’s description, which went on to say that the game is “crafted for fans of immersive single-player experiences.”

This “detective thriller” sees you in the role of Nolan, a detective tasked with locating and protecting the daughter of a freshly-murdered police chief. The game promises a grand conspiracy that “threatens to consume him and the entire city.” You’ll hack into the minds of suspects, using their thoughts, memories, and emotions to solve the puzzle of this world.
Neo Berlin 2087 Has Big Shoes To Fill - Is It Up To The Task?
The game’s promised ability to offer stealth or direct-combat, coupled with big narrative choices in a mysteriouscyberpunksetting certainly gives off heavy Deus Ex vibes. And the strong focus on explosive gunplay with dive attacks and slo-mo will give strong impressions to Max Payne fans - but will New Berlin 2087 live up to those expectations?
Some are skeptical - and the trailer didn’t do many favors for the game. Graphically, the game looks great; it captures that cyberpunk style very well. Where it seems to struggle a bit more is in capturing humanity. The delivery on the trailer’s opening line - a run-on sentence on things you already know about black holes - had me wanting to inhale by proxy. Breathe, girl!
Discussion on social media isn’t much better, though people are still open to the idea of the game being really fun. “I dig it,“one viewer said, “looks like Max Payne meets Perfect Dark.”
“They should change the story to fit the uncanny look of the characters.“Said another. “If the story was about two rogue sex androids that became self-aware and had to shoot their way out of the city, I would totally buy it.”
Will there be more info revealed at Gamescom? Seems like a safe bet - so if you’re looking to see if New Berlin 2087 can stand up to the games that inspired it, that’s where your eyes should be.
