Natalie Portman’s depiction of Padmé inStar Warsawed the audience on more than one occasion. Her most notable performance, though, possibly was during her last time bringing the character to life on screen in theRevenge of the Sith.

The movie delved deep into Anakin Skywalker’s mind and portrayed his journey of becoming Darth Vader in gruesome detail. Interestingly, there have been reports of the movie initially expected to go on an even darker path than what made the final cuts.
As a concept artist from the movie revealed, there were ideas floating around of the final confrontation of Anakin and Padmé taking on a veryGame of Thrones-ish tone for the climax. Natalie Portman, too, once commented on the same, but her statement seems to have left fans even more confused than before.

AStar Warsconcept artist claimed that the franchise planned Natalie Portman’s character’s journey in a very different way
As fans are aware,George Lucasgave his artists a lot of freedom to work on theStar Warsmovies. From conceptualizing a story, creating reference art for it, to even interpreting the dialogues, a lot of things took place behind the scenes for the movies to appear as they did in the final outcome.
As such, a lot of ideas had time to get bounced off of a few stages before anything concrete took place. Something similar possibly happened beforeRevenge of the Sithwent into development.

AsCBRreported, concept artist Iain McCaig disclosed that the franchise had plans to give Padmé and Anakin Skywalker’s storya Game of Thrones-esque ending. The famous climax of the movie saw Padmé flying to Mustafar to confront and plead with Anakin Skywalker to leave the dark side.
In the original movie, Obi-Wan Kenobi also sneaked in there and the famous battle between Anakin and Obi-Wan ensued. According to McCain, though, in the draft concept,Natalie Portman‘s Padmé would lure Anakin to come close to her in the guise of a kiss, much like Jon Snow did with Daenerys Targaryen inGame of Thrones’climax.

Although her plan, too, would be to kill her husband, she’d be unable to go through with it due to their relationship, and the end would turn out much like it did in the final project. Natalie Portman, too, commented on the matter in an interview once, but interestingly, her perspective has only managed to confuse the fans more.
Natalie Portman commented on the alternative version of theRevenge of the Sith’s climax
Natalie Portman first started portraying Padmé Amidala’s character in theStar Warsmovies withThe Phantom Menace. She noted that she was just 16 years old when she filmed the first movie, and by the time the third episode started filming, she was 22. She stated in an interview withVanity Fairthat she pretty much grew up on the sets, and her experience there became a huge part of her life.
It was such a huge part of my life to be part of Star Wars movies for so many years. I made the first one when I was 16-years-old and then [The Revenge of the Sith] I did when I was 22.

She also noted that it felt“wild”to do her scenes with a green screen. However, it almost felt like a very“pure”form of acting, as it felt like she not only became her character internally, but she had to create that world outside as well.
As such, herStar Warsexperience has stayed with her and helped her in many of her iconic performances over the years. She also commented on the rumors about there being an alternative version ofStar Wars Episode III’s ending. Surprisingly, while she noted the concept was super cool, there wasn’t much truth to it.
That’s cool, but nope.
Inevitably, this has only increased fans’ confusion as to what the truth really is. While many seem to take her word for it, others think that it could be that the concept was long scrapped before she started filming, and so she just isn’t aware of it.
George Lucas’ Blunt Response to Anakin Skywalker-Jesus Comparisons Forever Sealed the Lips of Many Star Wars Speculators
Well whatever the case, it’s been too long to do anything about it. Nonetheless, McCaig’s concept does sound intriguing, and many fans believe that that would have made Padmé’s character even more dynamic and iconic.
