Game of Thronesleft a lot of people at a loss of words, and it wasn’t just because of its gruesome deaths and even more grueling storylines. What’s surprising is that the people left baffled weren’t just audiences and viewers worldwide, but included people from the cast themselves as well. One of these people included Natalie Dormer, who played Margaery Tyrell in the show.

As fans already know, Margaery dies a rather tragic death at the hands of Cersei Lannister in the Great Sept of Baelor, which explodes by wildfire as she, along with many others, tries to escape but fails brutally. Turns out, this end didn’t sit well with Dormer. If anything, she claims she was frustrated by the way her character died until the words of an older actor consoled her.

Of course, a lot of people were left devastated and disappointed when they came across the tragic death of Margaery Tyrell inGame of Thrones. This was becauseNatalie Dormer‘s character was a powerful and commanding presence who was a decent person for the most part and did the right thing unless doing something wrong worked for her own, or someone she loved’s, benefit.

But perhaps none were left with as mixed feelings about it all as Dormer herself. In an appearance on an episode ofCollider’sLadies Nightseries, she shared her feelings regarding how the episodeThe Winds of Winterof season 6, where it all happened, affected her, saying,“I was frustrated that she went that way, but thenshe was frustrated in the scene.”

However, in that moment of her holding mixedfeelings about it all, the words of a mentor – whom she refers to as“a much older actor”– previously uttered to her helped. As she said, “I was once told by a much older actor,‘Don’t get confused. If you’re feeling something, always check yourself that it’s not just that your character is feeling it, and, via osmosis, it’s seeping into you.’ ”

Continuing,The Hunger Games: Mockingjayactress went on to explain during the interview: “Because if you play something, your body doesn’t know any different, and if you’re playing something repetitively, as you obviously have to do on a shoot, sometimes that emotion can seep into you.” Needless to say, that was something Dormer had held on to all this time.

Inevitably enough, as outstanding as this piece of advice is, it seems to have helped her understand the ladder of chaossurrounding Margaery Tyrell’s tragic end. In fact, not only did those words by her mentor help her see it all through while bidding her character farewell, but she even felt much“vindicated”by the time the credits rolled on the respective episode.

Thanks to the Advice, Natalie Dormer Felt “Vindicated” by the Time it All Ended

During the same interview,Dormer also reflected onjust how much chaos her character had to navigate through over the seasons since she joined in season 2. At the same time, while thePatient Zeroactress also expressed her wish for there to be some sort of payoff for all the pain her character suffered through it all, she continued to add:

So, of course, she deserved better. I wanted more for her, but she’s so frustrated in that moment with the Sparrow, with Jonathan [Pryce], and so that’s part of it. That’s how you know you’re doing it right, because you’re like, ‘I just need someone to listen to me a little bit more.’ She was vindicated in the end. It’s just a couple of sentences, but it’s all that needed to be said.

That said, her character’s vindication also helped her let go of Margaery Tyrell atthat particularly unfathomable jaw-dropping moment, just like fans had to do while watching her onscreen. As the 42-year-old Dormer continued to say years after it all happened,“She was vindicated, and I felt like I could let her go in that moment because I was like, ‘She said it, man.’”

Well, for what it’s worth, this does offer a different take on that tragic moment’s interpretation. And just like Natalie Dormer, we hope fans can let go of Margaery Tyrell through this as well.
