The ending ofMy Hero Academiathis year sparked a lot of heated discussions; however, there’s no denying that Kohei Horikoshi gave many of us the experience of a lifetime. Every hero, whether it’s a big shot like Endeavor or an underrated one like Red Riot, was given memorable scenes. The mangaka did a praiseworthy job of humanizing the villains without justifying their actions, with Dabi being the best example of it.

Speaking of memorable moments and the villains ofMHA, it’s hard to not mention the highlight of Season 6. Dabi’s iconic dance put his darkness on a grand display, and no other scene even compares to the sheer brilliance and thrill of that moment. Moreover, the ode to Joker makes it even better.

My Hero Academia Season 6is arguably the best part of the anime so far. From Dark Deku to Stain’s return, the season offers great fight sequences and emotional scenes at every turn. However,Dabi’s danceand the revelation about his true identity take the cake for being the most memorable of all. Dabi’s movements and madness in that scene are reminiscent ofJoaquin Phoenix’s stair dance inJoker.

From the suave walk out of his apartment to the fluid moves, Phoenix exudes nonchalance in that scene while tension brews in his environment.Kohei Horikoshinearly confirmed that the Dabi scene was an ode to Joker’s stair dance as he drew Dabi in a suit resembling that of the Joker.

This special illustration undoubtedly got some fans swooning over how great Dabi looks. However, his life was full of tragic events and questionable decisions. Horikoshi explored his character extremely well, from setting up the Todoroki family lore to making the grand reveal in the most dramatic way possible. Dabi’s dance was a culmination of his painful experiences as a child, the descent to evil, and the bitterness he felt in his heart.

Dabi’s character progression and the reflection of his madness

Dabi’s dance scene was glorious in every way possible, from the music to the voice acting. Every wordhe uttered pierced Endeavour and Shoto’sheart while he swung around radiating the madness and a hint of sadism. He committed to the evil in his heart and seeing Endeavor suffer just strengthened his resolve. The dance was a reflection of his plot progression in the series as every moment and beat pushed him further into the darkness.

The air and music got more intense while his smile became more unhinged and evil. The madness surfaced with no restraints whatsoever as he submitted himself to the moment he had been waiting for all along. He made his entire family suffer for the childhood that caused irreparable damage to him. Horikoshi outdid himself with that scene and the anime ensured that they deliver every bit of that brilliance.
