These Fiefs (Settlements) can then be governed, with new laws being put in place, upgrades being completed, and a governor being the in-charge. Owning a prosperous Fief can meanlots of denari for the owner in the form of taxes. Taking cities and castles increases your own standing within the world of Bannerlord, and all lords should aim to own as many Fiefs as possible.

Get Voted In

When you are a vassal foran existing faction, many decisions within that faction are made through the votes of the higher lords. In order to put your name in the running for the vote, the game weighs if you were involved in the siege, your total standing, and actions within the faction and if you have control of other nearby Fiefs. You’ll notice that within a faction, a clan will have multiple Fiefs that are close or connected in some way. This trend continues and is used as a factor when voting for the next ruler.

As for your overall standing within the faction, it may take time. This standing can be raised simply by being a part of the faction and winning battles under their name. While you may not be given a Fief shortly after joining, sticking with one faction long enough can have your name appear in almost every vote soon enough. After you see that your standing is good enough, raise an army and attack the nearest fief to the one you already own or the one that will be the start of your clan’s footprint.

Take It Yourself

Even without being a part of a faction, you are able to siege and take a Fief. This method is possible but very dangerous as you’d have no support system for what comes next. As your clan levels up, you’ll eventually be able to lead hundreds of troops just in your own party. Some smaller castles have a little over one hundred troops defending them and can be taken by just your party.

Should you single-handedly take a location, it will automatically become yours and fall under your clan’s banner. While taking a fief alone is a feat alone, it may only be a short-lived victory. By attacking the Fief, you are now at war with that faction, and they will come with hundreds or even thousands of troops to take it back.

The safer option does take more work, but being a part of a strong faction will leave you with allies to help defend your new land. That being said,Bannerlord is all about making your own story, and being the renegade clan taking over Calradia one castle at a time is a story above the rest.
