10Pick a Mobile Suit And Stick With It
Find Your Favorite Suit & Start Learning
There are approximately 186 mobile suits to play in MBON ranging from the original Mobile Suit Gundam anime all the way to Gundam Hathaway. Each one has its own complexities, cancel routes, and nifty tricks, but before you even begin to learn about those small intricacies behind each suit, you’ll have to learn how the basic system mechanics and movement works. If you’re a brand-new player, don’t worry about what’s good or bad, just find your favorite suit and play as them. Focus on how to use your weapons, how to move, and how to play with your teammate.
Once you learn how the basic mechanics of the game are played, then you can focus on learning the particular aspects of your favorite suit. Ideally, you’ll want to eventually learn a suit from each of the point costs (3k, 2.5k, 2k, 1.5k). Each of those point costs will offer a different way to enjoy the game, and also give you a good taste of the many ways to work with a teammate.

9Don’t Stop Moving
This Will Keep You Safe
One of the biggest mistakes new players make is walking around the map.Walking isn’t very useful in this game, and it will often leave you a sitting duck to your enemy’s attacks.First and foremost, you’ll want to use the boost button and boost to any place you need to go to. This is usually done through aBoost Dash, which is accomplished by inputting a direction and tapping the boost button twice.Holding a direction after this initial dash will continue to consume boost gauge and your mobile suit will gradually slow down. If you repeatedly press the Boost button to continually Boost Dash, then you’ll consume your boost gauge faster, but you’ll also travel much faster.
Boost Dash Jumps are an even more efficient means to travel around a map, but it’s a little slower than just Boost Dashing. To do this technique, input a jump after Boost Dash by briefly holding the Boost button. Your mobile suit will perform a short jump upward at the end of the Boost Dash and then cut its thrusters. The momentum of the Boost Dash will carry you forward while you consume no boost, allowing you to dodge a good number of attacks without the need to use more of your resources.

Boost dashes can be done after an attack. This is known as a Boost Dash Cancel, and it will allow you to chain attacks together while evading your opponent’s attacks.
8Watch Your Landings!
Land When It’s Safe To Get Boost Back
Knowing when to land and recover boost is another integral part to MBON.Whenever a mobile suit touches the ground after consuming boost, they’ll pause for a second before they can perform another action. However much boost you had left when you land will determine how long your pause is. The more boost you have, the shorter the pause, and the less boost you have, the longer the pause.
Since this pause will always happen, be sure to avoid landing when your opponents are firing weapons at you or landing in a predictable pattern. Land your mobile suit when you’re confident you’re able to squeeze in a quick break in the lull of your opponent’s gunfire, or if no one is paying attention to you. Cover also plays an important part here since you can land behind it and recover your boost safely.

On the other side of this, fire your weapons and heavy-hitting attacks when you think your opponent is running out of boost or when they’re about to land.
7Don’t Overheat
Overheating Leaves You Wide Open
When you completely exhaust your Boost Gauge, you’ll Overheat your suit.During this time, your mobile suit will have an extremely limited number of actions it can perform, and once you land, your suit will pause for an even longer period of time than normal, leaving you vulnerable to most attacks.Do your best to avoid overheating at all costs. If you do overheat, you can use a Burst to instantly regenerate part of your boost gauge so you can either find a safer landing spot or try and close out a kill. Learning how to avoid overheating your suit is an important step to managing your boost well. Be sure to take small, unpredictable breaks as you travel across the map to let your boost gauge refill.
There are a few scenarios where it’s acceptable to Overheat, but these scenarios are unique and still carry plenty of risk because of how vulnerable an Overheat will leave you. For example, it’s okay to Overheat if you’re finishing a combo, to perform a last second rainbow step, or if you know one more Boost Dash will bring you into range of a melee strike (initiating a melee can still be done in Overheat). .
6Pay Attention To Red & Yellow Indicators
Know When You’re Being Shot At
On the side of your screen will sometimes be an indicator bar that can either be yellow or red.If it’s yellow, that means a player is locked onto you, and if it turns red, that means a weapon has been fired at you. This indicator will remain red while the projectile is headed in your direction. Additionally, the indicator’s position on your screen also shows which direction your opponent or the projectile fired at you is.
When you have two yellow indicators on your screen, that meansboth of your opponents are currently locked onto you and you should focus on evasion and survival. Ideally, you’ll also want to move closer to your teammate because this is the perfect time for them to deal some damage while both enemy players are distracted with trying to hit you.
If you’re playing a melee suit, or a mobile suit that can mix melee attacks into its movement, you can use a mixture of rainbow step (tapping a direction twice after initiating a melee) or Boost Step to dodge attacks being sent your way when these indicators turn red.
5Red Lock Vs Green Lock
Shoot When Your Target Is In Red Lock
Your screen will have a lock on indicator around your target. The color of that indicator will determine whether your weapon will track your opponent if it’s fired.Red Lock means your weapons are in their effective range, and anything you fire at this range will naturally track the target to some degree. In Green Lock, your weapons will lack the ability to track their target, meaning if your target moves even an inch over then your weapons will completely miss. Ideally, you want to fire your weapons in red lock as often as possible.
However, sometimes it can be a good idea to fire your weapons even at green lock range. Gerobis, the large, multi-hitting beams in this game, are one example because they travel extremely quickly across the map and can catch landing Gundams even in Green Lock. Another example is firing weapons just to create a red indicator on your opponent’s screen, which creates more noise for your target to sort through.
The Lock On indicator can also turn Yellow. This means the opponent is invulnerable and can’t be damaged, and will usually be shown when the opponent has been successful knocked down.
4Learn To Block
When You’re Out Of Options, You Can Always Block
Blocking in this game is done by pressing down on the joystick and then immediately up.This allows you to block attacks, generate Burst bar, and take 0 damage from enemy attacks coming from the direction you’re facing. However, this comes at the cost of your mobile suit remaining stationary while blocking attacks, which means an enemy can circle around to your back and unload their strongest attacks into you while you’re preoccupied.
Usually blocking is best used to cover your landings when you’re low on Boost or if you’re overheating. In these scenarios, using a block to stop any punishment will usually be a net positive, especially if your other opponent is too busy with your partner. Alternatively,if you need just a little more meter to get your Burst online, then look for attacks to block so you can get your Burst as soon as possible.
Blocking a melee attack will cause the attacker to stagger backward and also knock you a small distance away to safety. This is useful to give yourself more breathing room against mobile suits that will tear you limb from limb if you don’t block their attacks like Epyon or Bael.
3Choose Extend Burst Until You Know What You Want
You Can’t Go Wrong With E-Burst
The burst system will take some getting used to, butif you’re a beginner, choose Extend Burst until you figure out exactly what you want to do with each of your mobile suits.Extend Burst, or E-Burst, allows you to use half of your Burst gauge to escape an enemy’s attack while it’s hitting you. While other bursts are also capable of letting you escape in the middle of an enemy’s combo, those bursts require a full gauge to do so. These escapes are particularly useful for beginners since they’re practically a “Get Out Of Jail Free” card if you make a positional mistake and another player is in the right place to punish you for it.Normally, you’d take heavy damage or lose an important fight for your team, but with E-Burst, you’ll only lose your burst instead.
However, the other two bursts in this game will give you more offensive bonuses than E-Burst.Shooting Burst improves shooting attacks, and Fighting Burst improves melee while also refunding back more boost gauge. These bonuses make them superior choices to E-Burst once you get better at using your weapons and staying mobile because they’ll help you close out kills or turn an entire fight around in your team’s favor.
Be aware that if you use a burst to escape an attack, it will immediately consume a third of the burst gauge, giving you a shorter time to take advantage of your Burst.
2Learn To Zunda
It’s The Most Basic Combo To Learn
A Zunda is the most basic combo behind every gundam with a standard beam rifle in their main hand. Learning this will give you a good foundation for how to move, shoot, and confirm hits into bigger damage windows.A Zunda is when you land a beam rifle shot, then follow up with a boost cancel, then another beam rifle shot, followed by yet another boost cancel and a final beam rifle shot to score a knock down. You’ll know you’re doing this right if your opponent takes all three shots without having the chance to escape.
It’s also important to note that practicing a Zunda also teaches you how quickly you’re able to cancel a beam rifle shot into a Boost Dash. This can be useful if you want to use Boost Cancels to chain attacks together like a traditional Zunda, or if you want to use the Boost dashes to escape instead.
1Let Your 3000-Cost Partner Die First
They Get More Value From Their Second Life
It sounds odd, butif you’re partnered with a 3k-cost mobile suit, verify to let them die first. If they die, your team will get a brand new, full HP 3k suit to try and win the game with. With a full HP bar, your 3k partner can continue to take risks and get into aggressive positions to win the game from. Since 3ks have the best tools to win the game with, your team will be better off if they get a second full HP life rather than getting a second full health 2.5k or cheaper suit.
However,if the 3k player dies second, they’ll come back overcosted, have to focus on surviving, and your team will have to rely on your cheaper-costed partner to win the game. This isn’t a great position for your team to be in, since 2.5k (and cheaper) suits are usually less equipped to win the game in this position compared to the 3k suit. Despite that, it’s still possible to win in this scenario if the 2.5k (or cheaper) suit is amazing at keeping both opponents off the wounded 3k suit, and if the 3k suit’s pilot understands how to run away and play further back than they would prefer to.
