Katie Taylor once again secured a narrow victory over Amanda Serrano in the rematch bout organized by Netflix. The bout was set as a co-main event alongside the match between Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson, where Tyson conceded defeat. The unanimous final result did not make Netflix commentators at AT&T Stadium in Texas very happy as they felt that Serrano was robbed of the win.

Just like their Madison Square Garden match, Taylor and Serrano gave their fans a classic in their boxing match. In the game, both women held themselves strong, landing blows that amazed their viewers. One of Taylor’s head butts gave a serious cut above Serrano’s right eye, turning the match into a blood and sweat-filled affair.

Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano Was A Classic For The Ages

Katie Taylor andAmanda Serranotraded blows for all ten rounds in Netflix’s rematch bout. In the Netflix rematch, Taylor retained her undisputed women’s lightweight championship. While the decision was unanimous, it also turned out to be controversial after commentators felt Serrano was robbed of a win. While their earlier match was a split decision, the Netflix match saw all three judges favoring Taylor with scores of 95-94.

The two women put in a great match for the viewers, the only saving grace for Netflix among embarrassing broadcast disruption and streaming quality issues. Serrano appeared to be the stronger of the two, pounding Taylor with her hooks and jabs. However, Taylor held her ground and often resorted to a game of head-butting.

One of the Irish woman’s head-butt landed a horrific cut over Serrano’s right eye in the fourth round of the game. The cut was opened wider in another head blow in the eighth round for which Taylor was deducted a point. The Compubox final punch stats heavily leaned towards Serrano despite Taylor’s win. Serrano outlanded Taylor 324-217 and outthrowed her 734-529.

With Taylor’s both wins over Serrano ending up in controversial outcomes, it is highly likely that they would go up against each other in a third bout.

Fans Call The Game Rigged After The Judges Favored Katie Taylor

After the controversial results, the crowd at AT&T was not happy about it. Amanda Serrano’s corner called Katie Taylor a cheat for headbutting Serrano. Taylor further targeted Serrano’s grotesque cut with left hooks in the match, which eventually forced the judges to cut her points in the eighth round. In the post-match comments, Serrano too addressed Taylor’s headbutting tactics (via Daily Mail):

I dared to be great tonight, I am the featherweight champion of the world. It is what it is. Every time you get a cut, it bothers you, she kept headbutting me, but we knew that is what she do. No matter how many cuts I have on my face, I will go until the very end. I think 100 per cent [the headbutts were intentional]. Using her head, dirty.

I don’t think if the commentary team or the crowd disagree with the result. The only ones who matter are the judges around the ring. So thank God. I definitely didn’t agree with the point deduction [in the ninth round]. I certainly wasn’t fighting dirty. Sometimes it gets rough in there. This is an amazing moment for women’s boxing.
