Metaphor: ReFantazio Review
It’s more than just fantasy Persona, it’s a JRPG triumph in its own right.
You can head to the nearby village of Inundo or search for rare berries in the Gracia Forest. However, we want to focus on a more spooky location: the Tomb of Lament, an area that plays host to a ghost called Fatolich.

It’s an area that is well worth exploring, not just to collect on a Bounty in town, but also because it is the location of one of Neuras' Relics, and a place where you may get some decent loot into the bargain. So let’s stop talking and start tomb raiding, shall we?
How To Prepare For The Tomb of Lament
As you will know by now, not all dungeons are created equal in Metaphor: ReFantazio, and this one is definitely one of the trickier ones relative to the point you have access to it within the game.
However, if you make some preparations before heading into this tomb, you just might be able to prevent becoming a ghost yourself:

Exploring The Tomb of Lament
The Tomb of Lament is a dungeon that seems for all the world like it’s going to be an annoying area with lots of switches of levers to open the various metal doors that block your path. However, what you need to understand right away is that for every blocked entrance, there is a secret path you can crawl through to enter each room.
To help you pinpoint how to get into each of the otherwise inaccessible rooms, here is a map for each floor showing the various hidden pathways:

Then, as for the enemies that you come across in the dungeon, you’ll regularly encounter fodder skeletons who will rush you as you enter the side rooms, so be on guard and take them out before they get a shot in.
Second, you’ll come across various Pyrite Imitec enemies which aren’t even pretending to be chests anymore. These are best dealt with with the Healer archetype, as light magic is their main weakness.

Consider having the Thief Archetype equipped, as you can use steal to stock up on Blessed Water when fighting Pyrite Imitec enemies. It is used to purify items at the church in Grad Trad.
Lastly, you’ll need to deal with various Guptauros. These are easily the hardest enemy variant in this dungeon, but these can be dealt rather swiftly if you have the Mage Archetype equipped, as they are seriously weak to Ice magic. Plus, they are also weak to pierce damage.

There are various secret avenues and pathways where you can obtain unique items, but we want to highlight three that are of the utmost importance.
Firstly, this is an area where you can acquire one of Neuras' Relics, which are used to increase your bond with him. This is found on the lower floor, nearest to the southwest stairset. From these stairs, look along the wall to the right, and you’ll find a secret path to crawl through that leads to the Relic. (Circled on map above)
Secondly, You’ll want to explore the area on the northeast corner of the lower floor, as there is an accessible area withtwo treasure chests containing rare weapons.
Entering from the rightmost staircase, head left along this corridor and then right when the path diverges.
At the end of this hall, you’ll find a path to crawl through, and this will give you access to an area that contains theBone Crushers and the Coral Guard Lance.
Thirdly, two Gold Beetles can be found in this dungeon, which are accessed in the areas shown on the map above (3a & 3b).
When you feel you have explored the area thoroughly and got all the loot you could possibly carry, you’ll then you’ll want to look for thetwo exclamation marks on the map, as these indicate levers that reveal secret pathways through the dungeon.
One is a shortcut back to the entrance, whereas the other reveals a hidden pathway leading to the dungeon boss.
How To Defeat Fatolich
Fatolich is a tough boss, but one that can be handled relatively easily if you lean into the weaknesses of both the boss and his Chimenza minion.
The gimmick of this boss is thathe can summon Chimenzas to aid him, and he can also use skills to add more turn notches, akin to the Faker’s Roguery skill.
The key here is to take out the Chimenza first, as the boss receives a buff if the Chimenza is on the battlefield. The Chimenza can be taken out with strong Wind attacks, so be sure to go with a Seeker Archetype in your team.
You should be able to take out the Chimenza with concentrated attacks in one turn if you play it smart, and this just leaves Fatolich to deal with.
The first thing you need to be aware of is thathe has resistance to Mage attacks and these will be repelled and sent right back at you, so there is no point running that particular Archetype.
Then, as for their weakness, they are weak to light attacks, but the downside is that if you run a Healer Archetype, you will also be weak to their Dark magic attacks. So, if you do want to run this, be aware that you’ll likely be giving them additional turn notches every turn if you do.
The best way around this is touse a Glowing Igniterto allow the use of light magic without inviting a world of pain to you.
However, a better option may be touse the Brawler Archetype, as while this Archetype does use HP to cast its spells, the physical punch attacks that it has access to are also something that Fatolich is weak against.
You also need to be aware of their Curse Chant ability, which will Hex you, meaning your attacks will damage you.The best way around this is to either pack some Hex cure items, use an Igniter that prevents Hex, or use buffs that raise your overall evasiveness.
In short, the key here is to get the Chimenza off the field as fast as possible and then exploit Fatolich’s weaknesses while swerving their Hex attacks. If you’re able to do this, then you can consider this dungeon complete.
