Maria is the daughter of Arvid Alces, a character who meets his fate early on in the story ofMetaphor: ReFantazio. Through her sadness and grief, she learns to cope by connecting with the game’s protagonist.
Maria lives atthe Hushed Honeybee Inn with her caretaker, Fabienne Vulpes. Unfortunately, due to Maria’s unusual background in the Rhoag and Ishkia Tribe,she has trouble connecting with people her age, and because of that, she has no friends.
As Maria’s Bond Rank increases, she begins to feel more confident in herself. She also learns to live with her father’s passing.

Progressing through Maria’s Bond ranksinvolves completing specific side quests and giving her drawings of the protagonist’s travels.
The good news is that these drawings come to the player naturally as they travel to important locations during the game’s side quests, bounties, and primary objectives.
Reaching the first rank with Maria will unlock the Healer Archetype, which is crucial in keeping the party alive in combat. Meanwhile, the last rank (rank 8) unlocks the Savior Elite Archetype.

The first Bond rank for Mariaunlocks automatically upon reaching 6/10 on the calendar. The protagonist learns that Maria likes books and decides to show her his fantasy novel of the utopia, written byMore in Akademia.
Maria talks about how hates that she never gets to see her father because he works all the time. After lending an ear and listening to her frustrations, a Bond is created between Maria and the protagonist.

Complete the “Promising Rewards” side quest and reach Tolerance rank 2
Reaching Bond rank 2 with Maria involvescompleting the “Promising Rewards” side quest,which is unlocked by simplyreaching 6/23 on the game’s calendar.On this day, the protagonist will awake from his sleep and the quest is automatically accepted.
After completing the Promising Rewards quest, return to the Hushed Honeybee Inn and speak to Fabienne behind the counter. Choose the “I want to make Maria Smile” dialogue option, which requireslevel 2 in Tolerance.
Fabienne wants the protagonist to spend time with Maria to improve her mood, so the two spend the day together in Grand Trad. Maria spends the day reminiscing about her father.

Unlocking Bond rank 3 with Maria involvesgiving her the “Maria the Midnight Sunsands drawing,“which is automatically received when traveling to the Giant Sandworm’s Nest.

Similar to previous Bond sequences with Maria, the two of you will end up spending the day in Grand Trad, where Maria notices a young boy who looks to be in a bit of trouble.

The boy opens up to Maria and explains how both of his parents are deceased, making him feel lonely and worthless. Maria asks, “Am I going to end up like that boy?” The protagonist assures her that she won’t and still has people caring about her.

Reaching Bond rank 4 with Maria is as easy asreaching 7/9 on the calendar.On this date, head to the Hushed Honeybee Inn and speak to Fabienne behind the counter. Choose the “Please, go ahead” option to begin the Bond sequence.
There’s not much else to do here except to listen to Maria express her feelings about how she thinks Fabienne will get rid of her one day.
Fabienne returns to the room and assures Maria there is nothing to be worried about and that she is like a daughter to her. It seems that Maria’s loss of her father is making her question her worth to others.

Players can unlock Bond rank 5 with Maria bygiving her the “City Ruins” drawing,which is automaticallyreceived during the main questline when traveling to Port Brilehaven.

Maria has come to the conclusion that sharing kindness is the best way to get people to come together, so she starts up a food stand in the central district.
This kind gesture from Maria leads to conversations between the townfolk, Fabienne, and Maria. It actually helps the civilians overlook her and Fabienne’s abnormalities.
Maria’s Bond storyline ends with her thanking the protagonist for finding a way to help her become happy. Maria makes the protagonist promise one more time that he’ll return and visit her again.
