Basilio is a paripus, and yes, it may seem like we’re repeating ourselves at this point, but this is yet another race looked down upon by those who consider themselves superior.

As the paripus resemble dogs, we can say most of their tribe is viewed as strays, and only a few manage to gain prestige.

Basilio and his brother, Fidelio, had the chance to prove their worth to Louis, who granted them a position in the upper ranks of his army.

After meeting the protagonist and seeing the other side of the coin, the brothers realized Louis is more megalomaniacal than he seemed, and they had a change of heart.

Basilio’s Bond Ranks Explained

Some conversations with Basilio happen in the afternoon, and others during a trip on the Gauntlet Runner.There’s no request required to start a new Bond with him.

There are two Virtue requirements to level up his ranks.You need five points in Imagination to reach rank six and five points in Eloquence to reach the final rank.

There’s also a request that must be completed to progress to rank 8, which is organically unlocked as you continue interacting with Basilio.

The interaction with Basilio begins in a heart-wrenching manner because it happens right after he loses his older brother, Fidelio.

He says he spent his whole life just following in Fidelio’s footsteps, and now he feels like he’s nothing and doesn’t know what to do next.

Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.

Suddenly, Basilio starts doing countless sets of sit-ups, and after this pump-up, his resolve is steeled.

He acknowledges that, with Louis’s help, they were on the track to becoming those they once hated, but now it’s time to change his destiny.

Instead of a handshake, the protagonist and Basilio share a fitting fist bump, beginning a new Bond with your new bro.

Berserker Enlightenment - Reduces the MAG cost of studying the Berserker Lineage

Beast-Scent Adept - Increases evasion when Basilio is attacked by a beast or human monster

It’s become a trend, but Basilio also wanted to take the protagonist on a walk to shop for herbs in Brilehaven.

During this leisurely stroll, Basilio reunites with Vinca, another paripus and a long-time friend. The two were test subjects at the igniter experiment facility.

Since herbs were in short supply, Vinca gave Basilio his own. The friend asks about Fidelio and gets the sad news before feeling a sharp pain in his chest, which he blames for a lousy night’s sleep.

They say their goodbyes, and Basilio promises to cook for the protagonist.

Before they leave, they overhear passersby talking about the brutal murder of a clergyman. Subtle foreshadowing.

Battle Aura - While in reserve, the amount of experience Basilio gains increases

Basilio offers to cook for the protagonist as a thank-you for accompanying him in Brilehaven.

The paripus proves to be a worthy chef, displaying not only culinary knowledge but also technical skills to make delicious dishes.

Basilio mentions that being a test subject in the igniter experiments altered his sense of taste, and he had to refine hiscooking skillsif he wanted to enjoy food.

After that, Basilio dives into the backstory of how life at the igniter experimentation facility was brutal, leaving him with deep physical scars, and how herbal tea is a must just to get through the night.

After losing many friends to the experiments and nearly his own life, Basilio and Fidelio fled the facility. They crossed paths with Lady Rella, who tended to their wounds and motivated them to keep pushing forward.

Basilio explains that Del stopped growing as a side effect of the experiments, while Vinca likely had a growth spurt. He and the protagonist decide to visit Vinca on another occasion.

They find Vinca groaning in pain. Basilio suggests he go to the Church to talk to some healers, and after some resistance, he agrees.

But before that, Vinca says he needs to finish a job, and Basilio offers a hand. The protagonist also hops on board the helping train.

Vinca still needs to prepare and tells them to come back later.

Grand Trad

Scion’s Merit - Increases skill inheritance slots for the Berserker Lineage to three

Basilio and the protagonist meet Vinca in Brilehaven, where he briefs them on the mission. He says the goal is to wait outside the Nightcrawler and snap the neck of an igniter-dealing merchant.

The two protest, but Vinca explains his actions. After Basilio and Fidelio’s escape, the experiments got worse, pushing the test subjects to their limits and leaving them unable to flee.

Vinca was left for dead in the gutter, but something kept him alive, and now he’s using this newfound power to exact vengeance.

Time to show the world that a King’s sword is mightier than the pen.

Basilio refuses to help him, drawing the friend’s wrath, who drives him away. Our paripus says he understands Vinca’s reasons and the suffering they endured, but he condemns cold-blooded murder.

He laments not having Fidelio there to guide him but resolves to figure out what to do and counts on the protagonist once he reaches a decision.

Berserker Archetype: Elite - The party can now study the Destroyer Archetype

To start this Bond rank, you must have the Imagination virtue at its maximum level.

They discover a bounty on Vinca’s head, and Basilio wants to resolve this as soon as possible. He suggests going to the Nightprowler to find the merchant and warn him.

Basilio finds Alcea, the merchant, and alerts him that he’s the next target in the string of murders. Basilio offers his services as a bodyguard.

The man just brushes it off, accusing the paripus of a scam and even threatening to pin the assassinations on him.

The protagonist reacts quickly, and the two leave before the baseless accusations escalate. Basilio explains that Vinca is almost like family to him, and that’s why he’s so determined to help the man.

Battle Hypnosis - While in reserve, Basilio will gain experience at the normal rate

Basilio concludes that even if the merchant doesn’t officially hire him as a bodyguard, he’ll still watch over him nonetheless.

But Vinca got there first, catching Alcea in a back alley and snapping his neck like a twig. The assassin is overcome with bloodlust, his body almost breaking apart.

Vinca’s magla spirals out of control, and he just wants to kill. The man jumps away, and Basilio says they can’t leave him in a meltdown.

He suggests to the protagonist that they should head to the chasm where the igniter facility dumped test subjects' bodies, assuming they’ll find Vinca there. You’ll receive the “A Brother’s Mercy” request.

Before starting Basilio’s final Bond rank, you must speak with him in the afternoon to tackle the “A Brother’s Mercy” request.For this, you’ll need five points in the Eloquence virtue.

As soon as you talk to Basilio, you’ll head out to meet Vinca, and a boss fight will begin. Basilio is a mandatory party member—good stuff because he’s a powerhouse.

Vinca uses Strike attacks and is resistant to almost everything.Make good use of Basilio’s Berserker Synthesis “Wanton Destruction"to add a weakness to the enemy and keep your party’s HP topped off.

Upon victory, Vinca regains control, but his injuries are severe. He thanks Basilio for stopping him and says all he ever wanted was to live in a happy future with all the test subjects from the igniter facility.

Basilio feels that helping Vinca has helped him overcome Fidelio’s death, and, at last, he has discovered his new dream.

The paripus decides to make the world a better place than the one Vinca and Fidelio left behind, a world where everyone has room to smile. To do that, Basilio swears to put the right person on the throne.
