The dust has settled on anotherPokemonPresents show, and the enduring image is probably that ofthe rather questionable-looking Mega Dragonite. If you came away less than inspired by the great wing-headed beast, the good news is that its existence has some very exciting implications for Pokemon fans.

As we know, it’s difficult to avoid spoilers these days. If you don’t play a game to completion, watch a movie or finish a show quickly enough, you’ll probably inadvertently hear all about it somewhere on the Internet.

Full games often leak ahead of their street date, and even before that, significant details are everywhere. In the case of the much-anticipated Pokemon Legends: Z-A, leaks have suggested Mega Dragonite’s existence for months, and it looks almost exactly as described.

Back in March,Sports Illustratednoted that the leaks listed Mega Dragonite’s design as“Incorporat[ing] some design elements from Dragonair back into its look, with two wings on its head, shoulders, and heels, with a blue orb on its tail.”You’d have to be truly persnickety to point out that the orb on the tail isn’t solely blue.

AsGameRantreports, then, this suggests that the other 26 Mega Evolutions described in the broader leaks are also legitimate.

There’s an important caveat, though: This is far from an exact science. After all, there was a time that some in the industry were absolutely convinced that Shrek was coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

That would have made my day, granted, but so too would some of the well-deserved Mega Evolutions strongly hinted at by Mega Dragonite’s official reveal. They’ll certainly bring some spice toone of 2025’s biggest upcoming releases.

Pokémon: 10 Most Powerful Mega Evolutions, Ranked

Mega evolutions are beloved by Pokémon fans, but which are most competitively dominant? Here are the best in the franchise.

Some potential Mega Evolutions Dragonite suggests

Falinks is one of them, a Fighting-type first seen in Pokemon Sword and Shield. In that game, it’s a tanky physical attacker with the signature move No Retreat, which boosts all of its stats at the cost of preventing it from switching out of battle. It could become an enormous threat very quickly with a further stat increase from Mega Evolution.

The Kalos starter trio of Chesnaught, Delphox, and Greninja are also reported to receive Mega forms in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, as areexisting powerhouses like Chandelureand Excadrill, heavy hitters on the special and physical sides respectively.

For me, the most exciting potential Mega Evolutions are those given to Pokemon that are sorely in need of them.Hawlucha, Pyroar, and Victreebel are some examples of listed critters that will truly appreciate some time in the limelight, if this theory is correct.

We don’t yet know how Mega forms’ power boosts will translate to the different style of battling used in the Pokemon Legends games. It’s still yet to be seen whether Z-A boasts a multiplayer component in which to challenge other players with them, too.

It would be wonderful to see some of these leaked Megas make it to mainline series battles, though. Perhaps some will be powerful enough to make as much of an impact as the likes of Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Mawile did, back when the mechanic was introduced in 2013’s Pokemon X and Y.

If you’re that invested in finding out, you might be tempted to seek outthe upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and Pokemon Legends: Z-A bundle.
