WhenMarvel vs. Capcom: Infinitewas released in 2017, it failed to live up to its predecessors and was a huge disappointment to fighting game fans worldwide. While Capcom has since given up on the game, the fighting game community hasn’t, and we’re about to see the fruits of their labors with Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite & Beyond, which releases tomorrow, December 20.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite & Beyond is a fan mod that improves the original game in every way. Don’t believe me? Check out the launch trailer to see what I mean.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite & Beyond Improves The Original In Visuals And Even Gameplay

This unofficial project is compatible with the Steam version of the fighting game, and requires the user to purchase the original game to apply the mod.

Developed by nearly 40 people over eight months, the mod can be downloaded for free (which might also explain why Capcom hasn’t sent their legal dogs to the development team).

A Year After Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite: What Went Wrong and What I Hope to See Changed in the Series

I look back on when I first fell in love with Marvel vs. Capcom, how the series took a dip with Infinite, and what Capcom can do to bring MvC back to greatness.

While Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite wasn’t a terrible game, it also was a huge step-down, especially compared to the excellent Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes. Our review of Infinitepoints out its lackluster art style as a sticking point, though also adds, “While it may not quite match the blend of style and substance that Marvel vs. Capcom 3 provided in the last generation, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite still provides an enjoyable romp with Earth’s (and video gaming’s) mightiest heroes, warts and all.”

Since MvC: Infinite’s commercial failure, Capcom has put the franchise on ice. Who knows? Perhaps if Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite & Beyond is successful, we might see it as part of the EVO Fighting Championships games rotation.
