“It doesn’t veer too far from the first film”: Todd Phillips Clears a Major Misconception About Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga’s Joker 2
The casting director Francine Maisler had the privilege of watching an early cut ofJoker 2. Maisler looked extremely impressed by Gaga’s character when she and her associate Molly Rose talked about the Todd Phillips movie at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic.
As reported byDeadline, Maisler made it clear that casting Lady Gaga was not her decision but Todd Phillips’. She claimed that she was awed by the performance. Francine Maisler added that“we all knew what she could do in A Star is Born”but that was also close to her real-life persona. However, Maisler thinks Gaga is a different beast altogether inJoker 2.

I mean, we all knew what she could do in A Star is Born, but I thought, ‘Oh, well, that’s kind of in her wheelhouse.’ Something she could do and just be real. But this… Man, she’s good. Joaquin blows your mind, but that she could keep up with him, and be real — and not just wiped off the screen by what that role is and what the performance is — shows she’s good.
Previously, we have seen many cases where films fail to ride on the hype and fall hard. Still the fans may believe in Francine Maisler as the DC Elseworlds project is a sequel to one of the most critically and commercially appreciated R-rated comic book movies. It will be exciting to see if theHouse of Gucciactress can steal the spotlight from the Oscar-winner in his own project.
