With theOne Pieceanime and manga on a break, the remastered version of Fishman Island Arc has become fans’ daily fix ofOne Piece. So far, the new episodes have many differences from the original anime. Fans have varying opinions on the changes, some positive and some negative. However, most of them agree that the new character designs are more pleasing to the eyes.

While this is true for most characters, Luffy looks slightly off due to a small change in his appearance. On the other hand, Zoro exudes menace as the remastered version brings out his true appeal. Beyond the visual updates, there are many other changes, so let’s delve into them.
The Stark Contrast Between the New Designs of Luffy and Zoro
After a long time skip inOne Piece, the Straw Hats reunited during the Fishman Island Arc. The original series had pacing issues and the visuals looked too polished, as if they had been airbrushed to look smoother. In the remastered version, the character designs have darker lines and all the characters look more detailed.
However, Luffy’s character design and the slight change in his teeth make him look weird. It’s hard to ignore how different his smile looks, and many fans have noticed this.

While Luffy’s design makes him look worse than the original version, Zoro looks much better in the re-edition. He looks more menacing and cool. The threat and strength he possesses become somewhat apparent with the roughness of the new version. With that said all the Straw Hats except for Luffy look more interesting.
The shading and shadow work add depth to the designs, making the characters look more lively than the original. The visual changes in the anime deserve praise, however, the same can’t be said about some other aspects. Fans are not happy with how the remastered version is straying off from the manga.

They Gave Us Better Pacing inOne Piece, But For What?
One Pieceoften gets criticized for its dragged pacing. Many scenes get unnecessarily stretched out, leading to an awful chapter-to-episode ratio. With this version, fans expected to see a faster pacing. And, the pacing is much faster than before, but it cuts off many important scenes. Many fans have also pointed out the bad editing which makes the anime look rushed and the flow patchy.
It inevitably makes one wonder if it’s even possible to have a good anime adaptation ofOne Piece. When the anime eventually returns from its six-month-long break, hopefully, we’ll get to see a better adaptation of the final saga in the manga.

Even with the remastered version, many are hoping that when the Straw Hats arrive on Fishman Island, the pacing will get much better as the events on the island are the main focus. We’ll find out soon enough if that happens, but at least the visual appeal is there to keep things interesting in the meantime.
