Before Saturday’sRoyal Rumble, CM Punk and Cody Rhodes clashed in the ring, stirring up a heated confrontation about their pasts. OnWWE RAW,things got spicy quickly as Punk started to reminisce about their shared history. And one thing that he made clear was that he wouldn’t be playing nice and thus didn’t even hesitate going straight for Rhodes.
Punk threw shade at Rhodes’ wrestling lineage, claiming he earned his way to the top, dubbing himself more of“the American Dream”than Cody. Rhodes also fired back, mentioning Punk’s famous pipe bomb moment and claiming Punk set the stage for a wrestling revolution only to make a grand exit immediately after.
Rhodes argued that instead of passing the torch, Punk dropped it, and Rhodes simply picked it up, claiming to be more“CM Punk”than Punk himself. In response, Punk claimed he carried WWE for two years until a bigger star which he undoubtedly implied to be himself, took it from Rhodes. The segment ended with a nose-to-nose standoff, creating one more iconic moment in the history of WWE drama that had fans cheering.
