In 2015, the originalLife is Strangeenthralled the hearts of many with itsmemorable characters, specifically the two main leads, Max Caulfield and Chloe Price.

In myreview ofLife is Strange: Double Exposure, though I vividly discussed Max’s nostalgic return as a protagonist, the same couldn’t be said from me about Chloe due to herunderwhelming and neglected presence.

Which game is the best in this beloved franchise where choice matters?

Deck Nine made it clear that it’s meant to be a soft reboot, but fans like me, who adored the first game, often wondered what Chloe Price’s fate would be in Double Exposure.

Thankfully, you’re offered a choice regarding Chloe, and we’ve prepared this guide to explain which one you should pick and briefly explain some key storytelling details in these choices.

The following guide contains spoilers about the ending and the latter Chapters in Life is Strange: Double Exposure.

The Fate Of Chloe In Double Exposure

Chloe Price’s narrative inclusion in the game is designed around two choices in the first chapter with Safi:That you two either Broke up/Grew Apart or that Chloe Died.

These are primarily based on yourfinal decisions in the first game’s finale, with you sacrificing Chloe to save Arcadia Bay or the town itself for Chloe instead.

Regarding legacy game choices, Double Exposure does not allow any functionality of importing save files from the original Life is Strange or its recent remastered release.

And before Safi asks you this critical question, you may also tell her whether Max and Chloe wereclose friends in high school or involved in a romantic relationship.

Now, depending on whichever canon you pick for Chloe for the story,it’ll impact Max’s recollection of Chloe and also the worldof her via the social media apps and the ending.

Specifically, it changes a few dialogue sequences mentioning Chloe or Acadia Bay, including the Crosstalk social media posts on Max’s phone. Still, you’ll only notice differences on a consecutive playthrough if you pay enough attention.

Most importantly, finishing Double Exposure on both outcomes is necessary to achieve the"Bay or Bae"Trophy/Achievement.So, if you aim for 100 percent completion, you’ll experience both choices on separate playthroughs.

What Happens If You Choose Broke Up/We Grew Apart?

If you choose to tell Safi that Chloe lived, the main canon will shift to show that Max and Chloe drifted apart during their travels together, leading to their inevitable fallout.

Max gives Safi avague yet bittersweet answerabout how she couldn’t move on from the past while Chloe kept looking to the future. A sort of innuendo about howchoosing to erase Arcadia Bay left a mental scar on Max.

From the journal you receive from the Arcadia Memories Box in the lounge, you can glimpse Max and Chloe’s wholesome yet ambiguous time together, to a cute pen conversation, as well as their time in Michigan, and ultimately, Chloe leaving Max behind.

If you choose the romance option, thenotable spotlight is the breakup letter from Chloe, which you can find in the same memories box as the first chapter. It summarizes Chloe’s worries regarding Max, her rewind ability, and, of course, her inescapable past.

It’s a pretty jarring sight for the first time, especially considering Chloe is slightly out of character here. Compare this to her original character from the first game and how much she cared for Max.

Still, the more interactions you see about Max and Chloe, from their previous text messages, memorabilia, and a motel sequence in Chapter 5,the more it sheds light on the duo’s conflict of interests and insecurities that led to their boiling point.

Since we chose to keep Chloe alive, you may occasionally see her traveling posts on Crosstalk, a couple of which Max can even shed thoughts on and share her inner regrets about.

Speaking of regrets, Max also goes more in-depth with Safi about her decision to save the"blue-haired girl" over the town in the opening of Chapter 4,the cause of Max not using her time travel powers anymore.

What Happens If You Choose She Died?

Max grieves over the death of her childhood friend even after all these years of their time together in Arcadia Bay and how she was unable to save her right in front of her eyes.

The choice with Safi on whether Chloe was a friend or romantic interest has little impact on the route where she died.

However, once again, themost noticeable change is in the early journal entries, with Max venturing to California and other small-town locations on her lonesome, dictating them to Chloe beyond her grave.

These journal entries emphasize Max’s loneliness and inability to accept Chloe’s loss, from her funeral to coping with grief via traveling to places. She even mentions Rachel, Chloe’s best friend, and then asks both of them to forgive her for visiting Long Beach without them.

Since we saved Arcadia Bay, Chloe’s mother, Joyce, remained in touch with Max via text messages. You can even find her posts on Crosstalk, which is an intriguing contrast to Chloe’s posts if she’s chosen to be kept alive.

Regarding the Chapter 4 scene I mentioned previously, there’s a significant variation here. Max will recall having to watch Chloe die in the washroom stall, forced to be helpless, and again steer the conversation back to why she stopped using her powers.

Even in the final chapter with the Motel sequence, the interactions are interestingly switched up, likethe book titles taunting Max for not being able to save Chloeand her surviving on skills that she learned from Chloe.

For the last major addition of this route, the final dialogue exchange between Max and Moses has the latter asking himif she ever wants to return to Arcadia Bay, meanwhile asking if she can confront Chloe again in the other route.

Which Choice Should You Pick?

Choosing a route for Chloe won’t matter too much;if you’re going after the Platinum Trophy or 100% completion, you’ll experience both routes for the"Bay or Bae" Trophy/Achievementanyway.

But given that it’s ultimately a personal preference and how much fans adore the"Pricefield" ship,I advise you to choose “High School Sweethearts…who broke up.”

It sounds weird coming from a fan who loved Chloe, and you might be ready to raise your pitchforks, but my reasoning is correlated to how this game’s ending potentially leads to a follow-up sequel.

Considering that Max is (possibly) ready tostop hiding from Chloe in this route’s ending, there’s hope that Deck Nine will respect Chloe’s character enough to give her and Max a satisfying reunion despite their upsetting breakup.

But again, you’re free to pick whichever choice seems the most canonical for Chloe and hope that the hinted sequel delivers a coherent conclusion to Max’s new journey and this choice at the game’s beginning.
