TheObsidian Entertainmentcatalog varies from fantastic RPGs likePath Of ExileandThe Outer Worldsto oddities such as the medieval-infusedPentimentand evenSouth Park: The Stick Of Truth.
Despite this wide variety of titles, the gem that has always stood out amongst the rest isFallout: New Vegas, which served as a follow-up to Bethesda’sFallout 3. This game one-upped many previousFallouttitles, andmany believe Fallout: New Vegas is the best Fallout story we’ve ever seen.

Fallout: Nuevo Mexico, The DLC Sized New Vegas Mod, Has Been Canceled
After a bit of rocky development and tons of work, lead developers have sadly decided to cancel the Fallout: Nuevo Mexico mod.
The recognition of the title has made it all the more exciting to hear that New Vegas' lead story writer, John Gonzalez, hasreturned to Obsidianas a creative director. As such, he’ll be shaping the worlds and storylines for which Obsidian Entertainment has become known.

Although this doesn’t mean asuccessor to New Vegasis in development, Gonzalez’s presence in Obsidian’s upcoming offerings should help strengthen the fantastic quality they’ve established.
This announcement comes directly from John Gonzalez’s personal LinkedIn profile, which presents him as a new full-time creative director working on-site at the offices of Obsidian Entertainment.

Notably, since his time at Obsidian, Gonzales has also helped develop other massive titles, such as both PlayStation-exclusiveHorizongames andMiddle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, a fantastic game set in the world of The Lord Of The Rings.
The description of his new role includes a funny jab: “Back to Obsidian for exciting times! (No, it’s not FNV2.)“This pokes fun not only at his previous role but also at those wanting anew Obsidian Fallout game; Obsidian is owned by Microsoft, which alsoowns Bethesdaand theFalloutproperty.

Despite this, many upcoming Obsidian games, such asThe Outer Worlds 2, are known as spiritual successors toNew Vegas, and if Obsidian were to develop anotherFalloutgame in the future, Gonzalez would be there to support the team.
Why New Vegas Matters For Obsidian
The fact that Obsidian has released deep, political epics such asTyrannybut simultaneously put out humor-filled games likeSouth Park: The Stick Of Truthshows that, while known for a large variety of titles, their writing has quickly become the core feature that makes an Obsidian game unique.
Among these,New Vegas' writing stands above the rest. With full voice acting and an elusive setting within the apocalyptic, retro-futureFallout,New Vegastakes Obsidian’sfantastic writingand magnifies it tenfold.

Gonzalez’s involvementin New Vegas started when he was hired by the company, right around when Obsidian was picking up theFalloutIP from Bethesda to develop a game based on the engine and inner workings ofFallout 3.

Founded in 2003, Obsidian Entertainment is one of the best storytellers and developers in gaming, so here’s a look through their extensive catalog.
