Upon its release, Larian Studio’sBaldur’s Gate 3took the entire gaming world by storm. Its success can be attributed to a number of reasons, such as its story, world, characters, and incredible gameplay. Both critics loved the game and fans alike, so it’s no surprise that it snatched the Game of the Year Award 2023.

With the game’s success, many waited for more news from Larian Studios about a potentialBaldur’s Gate 4.Unfortunately, that won’t be happening as Larian doesn’t have“fire”anymore to produce another title. However, the series might benefit if franchise owner Wizards of the Coast lets the minds behindMetaphor: ReFantaziodo the job.
It’s Time For Studio Zero to Give UsBaldur’s Gate 4
Earlier this year, Larian’s CEO,Swen Vincke, announced that the studio had no further plansfor a DLC or sequel forBaldur’s Gate 3. For the studio, it was a dream project that had been perfectly executed and had nothing else to add to. Considering the incredible experience Larian brought to the table, this was quite disappointing.
Larian’s Upcoming Patch For Baldur’s Gate 3 Is Reason Enough For Game to Win Best Community Support at TGA 2024
The future of theBaldur’s Gatefranchise is now in the hands of Wizards of the Coast or Hasbro. However, it’s not like Larian never gaveBaldur’s Gate 4a thought. While chatting withGamesRadar+,Baldur’s Gate 3‘s narrative director, Adam Smith, opened up about the studio’s ideas for potential success and why the studio couldn’t materialize it.
We tried, we did start pushing around ideas for Baldur’s Gate 4, and they didn’t excite us, we didn’t have the fire. It feels like it should have been a harder decision than it was, but it wasn’t.

It’s clear thatBaldur’s Gate 4was never going to be developed like the wayBaldur’s Gate 3was. However, we believe it’s time to give Studio Zero a shot at a successor for the game, considering its success withMetaphor: ReFantazio.
Metaphor: ReFantaziois basically 2024’s version ofBaldur’s Gate 3. It’s a JRPG that’s quite similar toPersonain its gameplay, bringing social links, time management mechanics, and fast-paced turn-based combat. The developers managed to bringinnovative gameplay and a captivating world that had never been seen before in the industry.

You could say that the title’s graphics and visuals weren’t up to the mark. However, with a bigger budget and a franchise such asBaldur’s Gateunder its belt, Studio Zero might be able to give us a game that surpasses what Larian has delivered.
Baldur’s Gate 4Would’ve Earned Larian Millions Again
It’s sad to see that Larian doesn’t have the fire to make another entry in the franchise, consideringthe numbersBaldur’s Gate 3is still generatingdespite the fact it’s more than a year old now. Over most weekends, the game still lures in thousands of players who can’t get enough of it.

The game’s success isn’t shocking, as it has impressive replayability and an incredible community that’s ready to push out new mods. While Larian still hasn’t revealed what’s coming next, it’s fair to say that it left its mark in the gaming industry withBaldur’s Gate 3and could’ve pushed to even greater heights withBaldur’s Gate 4.
