Keanu Reeves has essentially been the face of CD Projekt Red’sCyberpunk 2077alongside the game’s player-controlled protagonist, V. And while the actor plays Johnny Silverhand —the frontman of the in-game Samurai band— he’s also been playing the game according to the studio’s recent financial report.
Adam Kiciński, CEO of CD Projekt Red had mentioned in aSeeking Alpha transcriptionof the call (Thanks,Twisted Voxel) that Keanu Reeves had played the game. “Yes. He played the game. But as far as I know haven’t finished yet. So — but definitely, he played the game and he loves it,” he said.
The actor has recently seen the movieBill & Ted Face the Music (2020)release this year, and he’s involved in other movie projects such asJohn Wick: Chapter 4, John Wick: Chapter 5, The Matrix 4,and others. His role as Johnny Silverhand inCyberpunk 2077wasdocumented in more detailduring the last Night City Wire, a CD Projekt Red live stream that details all things Cyberpunk.
While players primarily play as V, Johnny Silverhand has been a key character for marketing the game prior to release. Arecent TV spot, for example, shows off a live-action Keanu Reeves as the world of Night City is detailed. Although his actual role in the game hasn’t been entirely revealed to avoid spoilers, he certainly comes with some serious attitude and looks to have some involvement in the main storyline.
It’s probably obvious that he’s enjoying the game due to him being in the game itself and also part of the marketing, but I for one find it interesting that he’s finding time to sit down and play the game while juggling all his other projects.
