Nujuma’s Kaii to Otome to Kamikakushi (Mysterious Disappearances, or directly translated as Mysteries, Maidens, and Mysterious Disappearances)will be getting a TV anime.Kadokawaannounced the anime on Thursday along with the release ofan official WebsiteandTwitter page, a promotional trailer, a visual, and logos. The visual was illustrated by Nujuma himself.
Nujuma first launched the manga Kaii to Otome to Kamikakushi in October 2019 on Shogakukan’s Yawaraka Spirits manga site. On Thursday, along with the anime announcement, Shogakukan published the manga’s fifth compiled book volume.
The manga has been described as a modern-day bizarre Romanesque story, although the story is simple enough. Sumireko Ogawa is an aspiring writer who loves mysteries. She works at a bookstore with a young boy, Ren Adashino, and together they witness strange occurrences.

The manga’s first mystery begins with a drop-lifted book left by a customer. Drop lifting is described as the opposite of shoplifting; instead of taking something, you leave something behind. Within the first few chapters of the manga, we learn that Sumireko had her first mystery published when she was just 15 years old. Now, at 28, she is left reminiscing about the past. Looking for some inspiration, Sumireko turns to the mysterious drop-lifted book. It has no title or author and on the inside is what looks like Japanese kanji, but Sumireko can’t understand it. After an attempt to read the book, she heads to the store. However, things quickly begin changing for Sumireko as she becomes a child.
Thenewly released promotional trailerdoesn’t give much, if anything, away about the plot of the series, but it’s safe to assume that the anime adaption will feature the same stories as the manga. The trailer itself shows images from the manga and even flashes those signs with exclamation points seen around the town. However, there is no official release date yet for the show. This means you get to sit back, relax and stay tuned as the Website and Twitter page release more content. A release date announcement shouldn’t be too far away.
