Troy Baker is known for scrutinizing everything to the last detail. He is a demanding actor who will go through great pains to find what works best for him through the elaborate process that sometimes makes him appear as full of himself.

His detail-oriented mindset might become bothersome for the other collaborators, including the director. However, things seem to have changed a little ever since Neil Druckmann gave him a reality check that changed him entirely.
Neil Druckmann Confronted Troy Baker On The Set The Last of Us
During the shooting ofThe Last of Us, Baker was confronted by Druckmann regarding his methods. He had an annoying habit of constantly coming to the monitor and asking for retakes based onwhat he felt like after watching his performance.
This attitude bothered Druckmann a lot, who was directing the game. An actor’s job is to act and not be bothered by how he looks. They should have enough faith in the director to make the right decision and give an accurate call.

Druckmann felt that Baker was overstepping the boundaries set by him as a director. Baker believed that this was a part of his process and he needed to do this to perform nicely. To which Druckmannreplied:
No you need to trust me – it’s your job to be viewed, not to view.

This statement made Baker reflect on his methods. This not only made the shooting smoother but also enabled Baker to explore more ways to express himself and become a better actor.

The initial rift between the two marked the start of a new friendship, after which Druckmann was more aware and prepared to direct him, and Baker left his individualistic approach to filming and became more collaborative.

It is not like there were no further conflicts of opinion after this. One of the major conflicts was when the duo disagreed about killing off Joel inThe Last of Us Part 2, but Baker eventually came on board with the decision.
The duo continues to collaborate on future projects since they have now developed a sense of comfort with each other. We might see more from them in the future, including an alleged fresh IP that Druckmann seems to be working on at the moment. What more do we have in store from the duo is a mystery that might clear soon. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments below.
