Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtreemay seem like a new story in FromSoftware’s saga, but the truth is far from it. As it happens, G.R.R. Martin worked on the game’s story long ago, when he was still conceptualizing the base game’s worldbuilding. Only, developers took their time to polish the game into what we’ll finally see on July 21 this year.

Elden Ring DLC

The DLC will uncover stories that already existed in the world, paying more attention to characters who may not have had their share of the spotlight in the base game. This includes the likes of Miquella and Marika, both of whom are essential to the game’s world.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will explore a part of the story that G.R.R Martin worked on long ago

With the trailer being freshly out, there’s a lot of information to process and speculations for the same are out and about. However, what may seem like a fresh entry into the game is actually years’ worth of work coming from both Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin. The creators builtElden Ring’slore years ago, but never truly had the chance to execute everything.

“A challenge on equal footing in the DLC”: Fans of Malenia will be Happy, as Hidetaka Miyazaki Assures Fans of Elden Ring that Shadow of the Erdtree is on an ‘Equal footing’ as the Infamously Hard Boss Fight

Hence,Shadow of the Erdtreeis likely going to expand on stories that weren’t explored before. According to aninterviewwith Eurogamer, Miyazaki explained how this is the biggest expansion FromSoftware has ever worked out. In fact, the ideas were so big that they could simply not fit in the base game.

This hints at how huge the DLC will likely be, and we’re just stepping into the story-based territories. There’sa lot more here, including gameplay changes, fresh characters, new places to explore, and more.

This time, players will explore uncovered stories in a different realm

Beginning from the place where you fought Mohg in Mohgwyn Palace, you’ll be teleported to an entirely new location called the Shadow Realm. This isn’t an expansion to the existingElden Ringmap. Rather, it’s a different location that feels like a step into Queen Marika’s psyche.

There’s a big chance that the narrative this time around will take the Tarnished back into the past, exploring characters like Miquella who still have a say (and purpose) within the game’s larger context. In this process, players are going to meet characters and objects that carry an important message in the game’s overarching narrative.

This is something that was planned by G.R.R. Martin long ago, and a lot of his work speaks about broken families and the drama that occurs between them.Shadow of the Erdtreewon’t be any different. It looks like this time, Miquella will be the one who guides us through these stories.
