WhileThe Falcon and the Winter Soldierhelped his case a bit, many fans are still not convinced that Anthony Mackie could become the next leader of this new era of Avengers. Needless to say, the actor has been getting a ton of unwarranted hate on social media.

Then he went ahead and made comments about Captain America not representing America during the promotion of Marvel Studios’ upcoming film. While his point of view is pretty understandable, people took his remarks wildly out of context, going out of their way to hate on the man for absolutely no reason at all.

His exact words were,

To me Captain America represents a lot of different things and I don’t think the term ‘America’ should be one of those representations. It’s about a man who keeps his word, who has honor, dignity and integrity.Someone who is trustworthy and dependable
His clip was posted all over social media by fans who did not appreciate Mackie’s opinion.

He then wrote that he has a ton of respect for the people who have served America, clarifying that Captain America is someone who has characteristics everyone in the world can relate to, not just those in the USA.
In Mackie’s words,
Let me be clear about this, I’m a proud American and taking on the shield of a hero like CAP is the honor of a lifetime. I have the utmost respect for those who serve and have served our country. CAP has universal characteristics that people all over the world can relate to
What Mackie meant during the press tour was that Captain America doesn’t represent America as a whole but American ideals, beliefs, and what the country should be. The superhero is a symbol of the ideologies that make America what it is.

Captain America is someone who represents global ideals and humanity like no one has ever before. Mackie isn’t wrong to believe that the supe should be someone everywhere in the world could relate to.
It is easy for Mackie’s haters to pick and choose what they want to believe which really makes us wonder, do people have an issue with his words, or the color of his skin?
Captain America: Brave New Worldwill be released on February 14.
