“Could you play another ape character?”: Andy Serkis Returning after Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is a Real Possibility

#KingdomOfThePlanetOfTheApesis a beautiful coming of age story framed around the idea of legacy and what happens to it when it’s lost to time or subverted by the wicked. It doesn’t surpass what Andy Serkis did with his trilogy, but Wes Ball’s approach proves that the franchise…pic.twitter.com/iz3qf01GK7

#KingdomOfThePlanetOfTheApesis a fantastic addition to the series.

While it may falter at times in the pacing department, that never keeps the movie from being an absolute thrill.

The VFX is astounding and the characters beautifully crafted.

Not only does this latest chapter in the saga uphold the legacy, but it may very well be one of the franchise’s finest offerings in recent memory. All these positive reviews and hype are revving up audiences forKingdom of the Planet of the Apes, with theaters set for a packed opening weekend!

WhyPlanet of the ApesThrives While Other Franchises Struggle to Stay Afloat?

Many would agree that Hollywood is a graveyard of reboots, with old franchises often floundering like capsized ships. Recent years have seenJames Bondtread water, whileIndiana Jonesbarely stays afloat. But thePlanet of the Apeshas defied the odds, swimming past the wreckage.

“Someone can still do that story”: Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Director Wes Ball Wants Someone Else for a Much Demanded Spinoff

Unlike some reboots that simply slap a fresh coat of paint on the classics likeJurassicor Disney’sStar Warssequels,Planet of the Apesdared to dive deep. Gone were the cheesy ape suits, replaced by breathtaking CGI inRise of the Planet of the Apes. Ittruly stayed true to its name. And instead of shoehorning in human heroes, the apes took center stage from the start. It was all the fans could ask for. As some might argue, with time, the saga got even better, learning from its mistakes and shortcomings, although it didn’t have much.

This wasn’t a quick cash grab fueled by nostalgia. The new Apes movies unearthed forgotten gems, hidden narratives that deserved to be retold. They ignited audiences with a story that was both fresh and familiar, and thus,Kingdom of the Planet of the Apesgoes on to show just that.

Even the MCU has stumbled lately as some argue superhero fatigue might be setting in. However, unlike the MCU, thePlanet of the Apesfranchise, despite a number of movies under its belt, seems to understand theright pace for releaseswhich avoids oversaturation but also doesn’t deprive its audiences of new content. It knows when to return and make a splash.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on August 17, 2025.
