Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki’sSupernaturalhas become timeless in every way possible. Being one of the longest-running shows in recent years and having some of the most dedicated fans across all forms of media, it is safe to say that there is a reason that it ran for as long as it did. Many fans would assume that the fifteen years that it ran for were a walk in the park.

However, it would seem that one aspect of the series made the creators and the actors quite tense. Despite having some very passionate fans, the show was always on the brink of being cancelled, according to showrunner, Eric Kripke.

Jared Padalecki’sSupernaturalConstantly Fought For Its Survival

Having first aired in 2005,Supernaturalhad a total of fifteen seasons before it ended. They explored many storylines, introduced some very iconic characters, and impressed many with just how long it ran. While many would think that getting greenlit for so many seasons was a walk in the park for the show, the truth could not be further from it.

Behind the scenes, it would seem that the series was always fighting for its survival, taking everything one season at a time and hoping that it would continue. During an interview withTV.com, showrunner and creator,Eric Kripke, touched on this subject, revealing that the series ended every season unsure about if they were going to come back one more time.

Every year we have to fight for our survival. The biggest determinant of whether or not we come back and really tell the story correctly is in the hands of the fans.

However, the one thing that keptJared Padalecki’sshow going, according to Kripke, was the fans and the support they would show towards their beloved series time and time again. The waves of conversations, love, and support for the series ended up saving it over and over, even though its ratings and studios were unable to show it the same amount of safety.

The Biggest Scare ThatSupernaturalHad

In another interview, Jared Padalecki also went on to reveal the biggest close call thatSupernaturalhad. It would seem that the series was almost canceled after its very first season, due to behind-the-scenes politics. After the series aired its first season, the Warner Bros. network ended up merging with UPN, creating what fans came to know as The CW.

Since there was a merger, many shows and projects were being axed left and right, and the creators were forced to hold their breaths as they waited to find out if they were out of a job or not. During an interview withVariety, Padalecki revealed that this was one of the scariest times in the making of the series.

So if we were nervous about what was going to happen to us to begin with, then when we found out there was going to be a new captain of the network ship, so to speak, it certainly didn’t settle our stomachs,

On top of being worried about whether their show was going to keep going or not, they were also quite concerned with the fact that someone unknown had their entire future in their hands. However, the show was one of the few projects that ended up surviving through the merger.
