2025 might be one of the biggest years for anime ever. Crunchyroll’s breakout anime of the year,Solo Leveling, is finally making its highly anticipated return with Season 2, debuting on August 05, 2025. Fans who caught the –ReAwakening– compilation film already have a glimpse of the season’s first two episodes.

However, for the rest of theSolo Levelingfans eagerly awaiting, rest assured—Jinwoo’s true potential is about to leave everyone in awe. Season 2 will pick up right where the gripping first season left off; this new chapter promises more thrills, action, and jaw-dropping moments.
Season 1 concluded with Sung Jinwoo earning the Necromancer title after completing the Job-Change Quest and recruiting the Red Commando Igris into his shadow army—an exhilarating moment that left viewers on the edge of their seats.

Jinwoo’s battle with Igris left everyone in awe, showcasing the knight’s incredible strength. Yet, many fans still underestimate Igris, viewing him as a lower-tier commander compared to other shadows like Beru.
Solo Leveling: Igris, Jinwoo’s most underrated yet formidable shadow soldier
Solo LevelingSeason 2 hype has reached a new peak as theReAwakeningfilm hinted at a sequel set to dispel fans’ doubts. From the start,Solo Levelingstayed focused onnever underminingthe MC, always portraying him as incredibly cool. A measly E-rank hunter was bestowed with the ability to level up.
One of the most broken abilities, Sung Jin-woo gains later in the story, is his necromancer abilities. By the end of the manhwa series, Jinwoo had over10 million shadowsunder his command and became the world’s strongest hunter.

It all begins with Igris, Jinwoo’s first shadow, who pushes him to the brink of death during their fight. Had Igris not spared his sword, it’s uncertain if Jinwoo could have won.
As Jinwoo’s power grew and his army expanded, many manhwa readers began to doubt Igris’ position as the strongest soldier, especially with the arrival of new faces.

While Beru was undeniably one of the strongest monsters introduced, he lost the ability to grow stronger and became reliant on his status as a shadow soldier.
However, this wasn’t true for Igris. In the manhwa, the Ice Monarch acknowledges that, while Beru may not be a significant threat, the Red Commander commands caution.

Solo Leveling Has an Unfortunate Problem That Could Set a Horrible Example for Manhwa Adaptations
To grasp Igris’ true strength, it’s essential to understand his past and what made the Red Commander athreat even feared by the Monarchs.
In the grand scheme ofSolo Leveling‘s storyline, Igris served the Shadow Monarch Ashborn in a war against the Rulers eons ago. Tasked with a crucial role by Ashborn, Igris eventually finds himself becoming a vital asset to Sung Jin-woo’s journey.
During his confrontation with Igris, the Ice Monarch recognized his unmatched strength, addressing him by his title. He revealed that Igris was the second-in-command in Ashborn’s army, known as the Knight of Death.
Despite initially playing a minor role, Igris undergoes a transformative ascent in power, jumping from an Elite Knight to a Marshal Grade Shadow after Sung Jin-woo’s rebirth as the new Shadow Monarch.
After unlocking his true power, Igris became one of the most formidable members of Jinwoo’s shadow army, on par with Beru and only second to Bellion, Ashborn’s strongest shadow soldier.
The fan-favorite Shadow Soldier who stole the spotlight
Beyond Igris and Beru, one shadow soldier stands out—not for strength, but for providing comic relief and stealing the spotlight. Iron is the shadow of Kim Chul, an A-Rank hunter who tried to kill Jinwoo during the Red Gate incident.
Solo Leveling: One Shadow Soldier is Neither The Strongest Like Bellion Nor The Fastest Like Beru But He’ll Always Be Our Favorite
After being extracted as a shadow, Jinwoo gave him the title Iron, and as the name,he remained a loyal shadow of Jinwoo.
TheReAwakeningmovie introduced Iron, delighting fans with the studio’s faithfuladaptation of the manhwa’s plotand the addition of Iron’s comedic scenes that stole the spotlight in theaters.
Iron went on to fight countless battles alongside his master and often displayed adim-witted and humorous side to himseveral times during his appearances. He eventually became a fan-favorite, who adored him for his brute strength and loyalty to Sung Jin-woo.
Solo Levelingmanhwa can be read on Webtoons, while the anime is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
