Bonnie Wright’s Request To TheHarry PotterSeries Makers Would Make The Book Fans Happy
Bonnie Wrightis excited to see a new young cast take on the roles of Harry Potter and his friends in the Wizarding World. Max officially announced the series adaptation ofJ.K. Rowling‘s novels in June and namedSuccessionfame Francesca Gardiner as the showrunner (via WBD Press Release).
Mark Mylod, known for his work inSuccessionandGame of Thrones, will executive produce and direct multiple episodes. According to Max, the series will be a“faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter book series”. Interestingly, Wright also wanted the same from the series and revealed the one thing she wanted to see better explored than the movies.

Wright shared with Variety that she would like to see Harry and Ginny’s relationship fleshed out properly, one area where the movies dropped the ball. She shared that there were nuanced moments between the two characters in the books that never made it to the movies due to lack of time. She shared that the character’s evolution could be better portrayed in the upcoming series.
“It was 100% a pacing issue with the movie”: Instead of Wasting Movie Time on a Pointless Action Scene, the Lowest Rated Harry Potter Movie Should’ve Explored Daniel Radcliffe’s On-screen Love Life
The British actress also noted that several characters were not properly developed just because of the limited time. She mentioned the movies not portraying moments between Neville and Luna, sharing that she hoped to see these moments play out in the series. Bonnie Wright shared withVariety:
So many things. More of the development of the relationship between Ginny and Harry. There’s nuanced moments of where they begin to fall in love. I think more of that arc of her character becoming this real loyal sidekick to Harry and how she really understands and knows his story and who he is and is the best partner for him.

So I just hope we see that evolution of that character — and so many characters. If only we could have had five-hour movies. There are so many characters that have moments I love from the books — Neville and Luna — so I’m hoping as a fan of the books that I get to see more.
The newHarry Potterseries is executive produced by Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.Rowling’s involvement has hinted at the level of detailthat the series is willing to undertake, though many fans oppose the decision due to her alleged transphobic stances.

Wright has no advice to offer to the new cast either. She believed that it was important that the young actors make these characters their own. She wanted the interpretations to feel new and fresh. Wright shared:
I don’t think I would have any advice, to be honest, because I think it’s so important for them to be in their world and their interpretation of it. And I feel that’s so important, from an actor’s perspective, director’s perspective, to really make it their own. And I really hope that the interpretations feel different and alive and new and fresh.

Wright also shared that the new actors could feel a bit more pressure due to the success of the movies, something she or her co-stars never felt. The series has yet to announce the cast and the release date, although the series will hit the screens only in 2026.
TheHarry Pottermovies are now available for streaming on Max.
