The 2000s saw the surprising rise of the vampire-romance genre with actors like Paul Wesley and Robert Pattinson becoming overnight heartthrobs. The former appeared in the wildly popular teen-drama seriesThe Vampire Diaries, which premiered in 2009, a year after the first installment in Pattinson’sTwilightfilm series took the world by storm.

A few decades later, Pattinson and Wesley seem to have moved on from their most popular vampire roles. However, when it comes to returning to their bloodsucking habits, the two actors have polar opposite opinions. While Pattinson is more open to the idea, Wesley has completely shut the door. Here is what Wesley had to say about the possibility of reprising hisThe Vampire Diariesrole.
Paul Wesley is not interested in returning for a reboot ofThe Vampire Diaries
ActorPaul Wesleyrose to prominence withhis performance as Stefan Salvatorein The CW teen-drama seriesThe Vampire Diaries. It ran for eight seasons with Wesley becoming a household name thanks to his role in the series, which concluded in 2017.
Wesley has since moved on to other projects and admitted in an interview withInStylethat he has no intention of reprising what is arguably his most popular role. The actor made the following statement about the possibility of returning for a reboot ofThe Vampire Diaries:

I would never do another vampire anything, period, let alone Vampire Diaries.
From Wesley’s words, it is evident that the actor has no interest in playing a vampire, having done so earlier in his career for almost a decade.

Furthermore, Wesley admitted that while he still gets recognized as Stefan Salvatore, he wanted to try his hand at other roles and diversify his filmography, explaining why he wasn’t open to returning to Mystic Falls. Wesley plays James T. Kirk inStar Trek: Strange New Worlds, which only reiterates his desire to play fresh roles.
Robert Pattinson would be open to reprising his role in anotherTwilightmovie
While Wesley isn’t willing to return to his most famous vampire role, actorRobert Pattinsonwho playedEdward Cullen in theTwilightfranchise isn’t as opposed to the idea of returning to the vampire game. During a 2018 interview, Pattinson discussed potentially returning to his bloodsucking roots.
I mean, I’m always kind of curious. Anything where there’s a mass audience—or seemingly an audience for it—I always like the idea of subverting people’s expectations.

Pattinson made the above statement (viaTeen Vogue), suggesting he would be open to reprising his vampire role, provided there was some radical way to bring his character back in a potential reboot.

Since leaving the teen franchise behind, Pattinson has established himself as a versatile actor, which might explain his willingness to reprise the role. An animated series based on the novelMidnight Sun, a retelling of the first book from Edward’s perspective is in development at Netflix. Hence, there is a chance that Pattinson could return to voice the character.
The Vampire Diariesis streaming on Peacock.
