However, a happily married man since 2005, Damon was never the paparazzi’s focus as his life has never really been scandalous and scandal is what sells.Ben Affleck, though, fell on the opposite end of the spectrum.
During the interview, Damon stated that he couldn’t bring himself to imagine what his lifelong friend had to go through.
I’ve been really lucky in that way … especially when I look at Casey’s brother, Ben. I can’t imagine living under that kind of scrutiny. And it’s been like that for 25 years and we’ve had parallel careers in a lot of ways and so I’m fortunate to have been kind of excused from that part of [it]. That magazine culture that was so huge you know … 25 years ago kind of ignored me. Right, like a guy who’s married, it’s so boring.
While we love a happy love story, we cannot ignore the fact that the downs of a celebrity’s life are more publicized than the ups, especially when it comes to their love lives.
Damon stated that as long as celebs stayed away from “s*x and scandal,”the media would just let them be, which is how he managed to avoid the excessive attention.
What would sell those things were scandal and s*x and all that stuff … and as long as you didn’t do any of that stuff it wasn’t really worth their time to wait to take your picture and so I ended up kind of getting left alone.
It looks like Affleck got the short end of the stick as compared to Damon when it comes to being in the media’s spotlight.
