9 out of 10 times, actors often tend to be poles apart from the characters they portray onscreen, and they certainly don’t identify with whoever’s shoes they’re stepping into. After all, Robert Pattinson detests Edward Cullen, and Penn Badgley isn’t going around in Joe’s telltale black cap and stalking women. And well, Antony Starr is no exception.
Unlike some fans who have ended up idolizing the erratic and violent Homelander, Starr – the actor who plays the vicious supe – is nowhere near supportive of the character, least of all his bizarre and creepy habits. If anything, the New Zealand-born actor is repulsed by it all.

The Prime Video flagship series stars a plethora of talented stars and riveting characters, butAntony Starr’s Homelander is arguably one of the most bone-chilling additions to the entirety of the show. Starr, however, is far from the homicidal maniac that he depicts inThe Boys. If anything, he’s the polar opposite, so much so that one of Homelander’s signature traits is probably Starr’s worst nightmare.
In the show, Homelander is a murderous supe with mega mommy issues paired with a disturbing Oedipal complex and a severe case of loneliness. The same is symbolized through milk, which, throughout four seasons, has come to be an inextricable, obsessive part of him. But in reality, Starr is, simply put, grossed out by that habit of is, especially if it’s goat milk.

In aFirst We Feastepisode,Chace Crawford– who co-stars with theBansheestar inThe Boys– presented the latter with different kinds of milk, which a blindfolded Starr was to taste and guess correctly. After a failed almond milk guess and the right oat milk answer, he tried goat milk, only to instantly gag after the first sip.
“There’s a f**king lump in it, I’m hoping that was cream […] I’m out. I’m done,”a clearly repulsed Starr said.“What was that? Oh, that looks… that actually looks disgusting.”

Homelander represents everything about the world that desperately needs to be changed – greed, malice, and violence – for starters. And yet, there is a chunk ofThe Boysfans who look up to the evil superhero, something that is unfathomable to the man who plays the character himself.
In an interview with theLA Times, Starr, 48, admitted that he was befuddled when he came across audiences“glomming”onto Homelander.
A lot of people have glommed onto him. There’s a weird element out there that actually kind of idolize him. I’ve seen some sh*t on Twitter and I’m like, ‘Wait, What? You are missing the point entirely!’

In a nutshell, Homelander is a terrifying individual who goes around killing people for a living (and sometimes for fun), not a character worth admiration and certainly not someone to take inspiration from. The only thing about him that should be glorified is Starr’s extraordinary performance.
