The Walking Deadstar Josh McDermitt made a revelation, stating that he wouldn’t have taken on the role of Eugene Porter ten years ago. The reason? He was not into horror or zombie movies.

McDermitt is known for his role as Eugene Porter on AMC’sThe Walking Dead. He also acted in Showtime’sThe Loudest Voiceand the final season of AMC’sMad Men.
The revelation was shocking, considering how successful his portrayal of Eugene Porter has been. Eugene Porter debuted in issue 53 of Robert Kirkman’sThe Walking Deadcomic series.

Before the outbreak, Eugene was a high school science teacher. In the comics, he was portrayed as more cynical and less likable compared to his TV version.
Eugene showed up in Season 4, Episode 10 ofThe Walking Dead, Inmateswith Abraham and Rosita. Over the years, he’s changed a lot. At first, he was a coward, but after living in the apocalypse for ten years, he toughened up and learned to survive better.

Why Didn’t Josh McDermitt Want to be a Part ofThe Walking Deadrole?
DuringThe Walking Dead‘s European Tour before the finale on April 3,Mirror Onlineasked the cast if they would’ve accepted a TV script about zombies ten years ago—before the show’s hype. To this, Josh McDermitt, who liked the show before joining the cast, said he wasn’t sure:
“I’ll be honest, I’m not a horror genre fan, I don’t like zombie movies and zombie shows and things like that.”

But McDermitt lovedThe Walking Deadbecause“it’s not a show about the zombies, it’s a show about the people trying to survive in this world.”He continued,There’s something about that first pilot episode that just sucked me in,”adding, he“was hooked.”The actor then went to say:
“I would like to say I would pick it up, but I think I probably would’ve – you know, this show has actually opened my mind. I’ve watched more horror movies now. I never watched them because I’d get scared, that’s why – but I feel I can get into it now. I would think if I saw that script ten years ago I would probably turn it down, unfortunately – and it’d be a huge mistake.”

Before being on the show, the 45-year-old didn’t like horror movies. But being part ofThe Walking Deadchanged his mind. IfThe Loudest Voicestar saw the script years ago, he might have refused because he didn’t like horror back then. But now the Arizona native knows it would’ve been a big mistake, especially considering how successfulThe Walking Deadturned out to be.
