His funny yet articulate demeanor was loved by audiences and he made his guests very comfortable and welcome every time they came on the show.

King’s marital life, however, was messy and he was married 8 times before he married Shawn Southwick in 1997. But their relationship also soured in 2019 and they filed for divorce that year. Considering the failed marriages he has had, King asserted in 2020 that he was not a ‘marrying guy’ and the big age gap between them led to the downfall of their marriage.
Larry King and Shawn Southwick’s 26-Year Age Gap Took Its Toll On Their Marriage

King further stated that what he loved at various points in his life differed and it was the reason behind his failed marriages. He also admitted that the huge age gap between him and Southwick took its toll on their marriage and they finally filed for divorce in 2019. King said,
I got married a lot. But in my head, I’m not a marrying guy. When I grew up, nobody lived together. If you fell in love, you got married. And so I married the ones that I loved. But what I loved at 20 is not what I loved at 30, and what I loved at 30 is not what I loved at 40. We had a big age difference and that eventually takes its toll.

Despite his marital woes, King was a proud father and toldPeoplethat nothing beats parenthood. He is very grateful for how his life has turned out and called it a blessed one. Despite their divorce, King still loved his ex and wished the best for her always.

However, he stated that his biggest achievement is being a father and believes there isn’t a bigger achievement than that. For a kid from Brooklyn who just wanted to get on the radio business, he believes his life had turned out pretty well. King said,
My biggest accomplishment is fathering children. I don’t think there’s any bigger accomplishment than that. I have three grown, and two young ones plus a stepchild. I’m very proud of my career. 54 years in the business, five halls of fame, and three Peabody awards. It’s a pretty good slice for a little kid from Brooklyn who just wanted to get on the radio.

The celebrated talk show host passed away in 2021 due to a sepsis infection. His memorable interviews and words of wisdom will always be remembered. Current talk show hosts have always looked up to him as an inspiration and his legacy will always remain intact.
