If there is anyone that is synonymous withStar Warsapart from George Lucas, it is Mark Hamill. The actor brought Luke Skywalker to life in the franchise, a character that served as his breakout role in the industry and how. Apart from the iconic role, Mark Hamill also voiced a character inStar Wars: The Clone Wars –Darth Bane.

The actor had a cameo role in the sixth season of the series and was only seen in the last episode titledSacrifice.Despite what little time he spent working on the show, he was nominated for an Emmy. While the actor lost out on the award, he was not upset at all. Instead, he was actually pretty glad that he went home empty-handed and the noble reason behind this will make you respect him even more.

Mark Hamill On Not Winning an Emmy forThe Clone Wars

Mark Hamillhas had the privilege of making two polar opposite characters in theStar Warsfranchise his own. He playedLuke Skywalkerwho is a Jedi Knight and works on principles of peace and selflessness and voiced Darth Bane, a Sith Lord who believes in the dark side of the Force.

Even though his role was a cameo, Hamill’s incredible work got him a nomination at the 42ndDaytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program. The actor did not take the award home, though.

Mark Hamill’s role in The Clone Wars

Instead of feeling disheartened by his loss, Hamill was actually quite relieved. Why? He believed that among the many voice actors who had contributed to the show over numerous episodes, he was the least deserving, as he had only been part of the series for “twenty minutes.”

He toldBritish GQhow absurd it was that he voiced Joker for 25 years but was never up for an Emmy but received a nomination for playing Darth Ban once.

I played Darth Bane on [Star Wars: The Clone Wars]. I don’t know how the main cast felt, because I went and did it by myself. Been doing the Joker for 25 years, never got an Emmy nomination. Did that character once; Emmy nomination.

As for why he’s glad he didn’t win, Hamill said,

Now thank god I didn’t win because I certainly didn’t deserve it. The cast is just the best voice-over people in the business. Here they do 65 episodes, really work hard. I come in for 20 minutes and snag an Emmy nom.

Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker

Clearly, Hamill respected his colleagues too much to want to take such an honor away from them. While the nomination was not in his hands, he’s just glad that things worked out according to his preference and he didn’t win the award.

Will Mark Hamill Ever Return as Luke Skywalker?

It has been a while since we saw Hamill in the get-up of Luke and it looks like it will remain this way. Last year, the actor made it clear that he was not looking to return to the iconic character and that he had put down his lightsaber for good.

Darth Vader Decapitating Luke Skywalker Sequence Would Have Been a Disaster Had Mark Hamill Never Gone Against the Wishes of His Star Wars Crew

The actor appeared for an interview onCBS Newslast year where he made it clear that he had had “enough”of Luke. While he stated that he would never say never, he just doesn’t think there is a good reason for him to go back to the franchise as the character.

He stated,

I had my time, and that’s good. But that’s enough…Well, you never say never. I just don’t see any reason to. Let me put it that way: I mean, they have so many stories to tell, they don’t need Luke anymore.

When asked how he felt about forever being known as the guy who played Luke Skywalker, Hamill had an answer that was just as charming as him.

Yeah. Well, I don’t care. I mean, the truth of the matter is, I never really expected to be remembered for anything. I just wanted to make a living doing what I liked. And I thought, ‘Well, it could be worse. I could be, like, known as being the best actor who ever played Adolf Hitler, you know?’ At least Luke is an admirable fellow!

Well, at least fans can turn their screens on and watch Hamill making an indelible mark in the franchise whenever they want, right from the comfort of their homes!
