During an appearance onThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Betty Gilpin revealed that her early acting days were in theater andLaw & Order. She appeared that she had appeared on the“mothership”show and its spin-offs during the 2000s. WhenJimmy Fallonasked whether she appeared as a dead body in any of her appearances, Gilpin had quite the tale to tell.

Gilpin’s role as a dead body took place during the eighth episode of season six ofLaw & Order: Criminal Intent. The Dick Wolf-created show starredVincent D’Onofrioand Kathryn Erbe as the detectives of NYPD’s major case squad. Gilpin played Amanda Dockerty, sharing that she played the daughter of Fran Drescher’s character Elaine Dockerty.

Gilpin recalled how she had to film the scene where she was found naked in an oil drum.D’Onofrio’s Detective Robert Gorenfinds her body in the episode. Gilpin told Fallon that they filmed the scene of them zipping her up in a body bag in a different location on a remote beach. She remembered D’Onofrio having a“grumbly scene”over her body.

However, when the scene was done, the crew almost forgot Gilpin in the body bag. Gilpin shared that the crew packed up and began walking away when one of the PAs panickingly realized that they left an actor in the body bag. Gilpin told the story onThe Tonight Show:

And then they called cut, they were like, ‘That’s lunch, guys! Great day!’ And I hear footsteps on gravel, getting farther and farther away, van doors closing. And then ten seconds goes by. I hear one far-away P.A. being like ‘Oh my God,’ and footsteps coming towards me, unzips, sunlight in my face.

When Fallon imitated her crying out for help, Gilpin shared that she stayed still inside the bag until the PA found her. She shared,“No, I didn’t want to be high-maintenance. I wanted to work again, the same season.”She did, in fact, work again on the show as an“alive person”, joking to Fallon,“They were like, ‘No one cares. No one remembers you.'”

According toLaw & Order fandom, Gilpin has appeared in a total of four episodes in the franchise. She appeared in one episode each ofLaw & OrderandLaw & Order: SVUand in two episodes ofCriminal Intent. She joked with Fallon:
