James Gunn’s DCU adventure has finally started with the release ofCreature Commandos. Although the story had been cooking for a long while, according to Gunn, he finally found a good opportunity to serve it. And serve it did, with people raving about the amazing first episode.

Speaking in an interview about the release and his upcoming plans, includingSuperman, after taking the helm of DC studios, the producer claimed that he is happy about the way the animated series turned out.
Mostly because, it would have been extremely disconcerting otherwise, as he can be quite meddling. Thankfully for him, the entire team worked together to make it a success.

James Gunn Says He Is a Meddling Guy
Based on Mary Shelley’s novel and the comic books, DCU’sCreature Commandosexplores uncharted territories when it comes to Frankenstein’s origins and the adventures he embarks on with The Bride. In an interview withJosh Horowitzon theHappy Sad Confusedpodcast,James Gunnclaimed that he really appreciates the fact that people are loving the show so much.
He joked that he has turned into quite a meddling person due to past experiences, and has trouble letting go of control once he transfers the screenplays to the makers of the project. According to him, this is possibly why his first animation writing project took so many years to come to life even though he started penning it down a long time ago.

In the past, I’ve been a screenwriter…you know, just a screenwriter and turned over projects to other people. Then sometimes seeing the first cut of something I’ve wanted to k*ll myself.
And other times, he explained when he’d been a producer for TV shows, but it’s been“really difficult”for him. Not being in charge of direction, and making decisions for something he has been so involved in is challenging for him.

I’m just a meddling guy, and I just want to take…just do it all myself.
As a result, when he turned over the story ofCreature Commandosto Warner Animation Studios, Dean Lorey, and the rest of the team, he made sure to strictly notify them to“follow the text completely,”and not veer off from it at all.
