Koei Tecmo announcedHyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonmentduring the firstNintendo Switch 2Direct, with Princess Zelda once again taking on the mantle of main character, as she goes back in time to fight Ganon during a pivotal moment in Hyrule’s history.
This is the second time in recent history that Princess Zelda has been the protagonist of the series bearing her name. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom also starred the embattled Princess as she fights to save her kingdom in Link’s absence.
Nintendo GameCube Titles Coming To Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo Switch 2 will have access to GameCube games exclusively via the Nintendo Switch Online service, including The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.
The first trailer for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is now available on the Nintendo of America YouTube channel. In this game, the short-haired Princess Zelda from The Tears of the Kingdom timeline goes back in time to The Imprisoning War, where Ganondorf was defeated by the Zonai.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment Is A Nintendo Switch 2 Exclusive
The trailer for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment confirmed that the game is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive and will launch in Winter 2025. Hopefully, the beefier hardware of the new Switch will result in better performance than what Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity was capable of.
Not much footage was shown of the game, but fans did see Princess Zelda fighting alongside Zonai warriors, some wearing masks of the Divine Beasts from Breath of the Wild, as they battled through hordes of Moblins and other beasts. A younger version of Ganondorf was also briefly shown during the trailer.
While it’s a shame that the first Nintendo Switch 2 Direct didn’t feature a teaser for a new mainline entry in The Legend of Zelda series, the fact that fans are getting a new Hyrule Warriors is reason enough to celebrate. Age of Calamity was a great game let down by the hardware of the Nintendo Switch, so hopefully, its sequel won’t face those issues on Nintendo’s brand-new console.
