How to Unlock Weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds

The weapon tree is a bit more confusing compared to the armor tree, and players can encounter three roadblocks:

Question Marks on the Weapon Tree, Explained

Let’s first tackle what the question marks mean in the Smithy tree, considering it’ll be the first roadblock any player encounters.

As I said before, the question marks mean you eitherhaven’t hunted and defeated a specific monster, oryou haven’t collected the appropriate material.

Question Marks on Weapon Tree Monster Hunter Wilds

For example, the Doshaguma tree only becomes available once you have defeated a Doshaguma.

If there are still question marks under the “Forging Materials” section of the Doshaguma tree, that means you haven’t found the specific material required to forge the weapon. Once you collect the correct material, the question marks will go away.

Not all monster parts drop during a hunt, meaning you may have to hunt the same monster multiple times to earn the material and remove the question mark.

Also, some materials must be found outside hunts, such as through world exploration, bone piles, mining deposits, etc.

This is a similar principle that the armor tree follows. The next two sections are unique to only the weapon tree.

You Do Not Have the Required Equipment, Explained

Another roadblock players will hit specifically whencrafting weapons inMonster Hunter Wildsis the message stating “You do not have the required equipment.”

This simply means thatyou haven’t crafted the previous weapon within that specific monster tree.

Capcom Is Looking To Bring Back More Dormant IPs

Good news for nostalgics amid a concerning trend in game dev.

Monster Hunter Wildsdoesn’t allow players to skip a weapon within a monster tree.

For example, for you to craft the Dosha Fleshhacker II in the Doshaguma tree, you first have to craft the Dosha Fleshhacker I weapon.

This Cannot Be Forged or Upgraded Yet, Explained

The most confusing roadblock for unlocking weapons inMonster Hunter Wildsis the message that states “This cannot be forged or upgraded yet.”

If you look closely at the Smithy weapon tree, you’ll notice thatsome weapons are connected to a line leading to another monster tree.To make a weapon available for forging, you have to craft the weapon attached to this line.

Take the image attached as an example. If I wanted to craft the Nihil Switch Axe I on the Xu Wu Tree, I have to first craft the Windsunder Axe I on the Hirabami Tree.

This is indicated by the gray line attaching the two.Just a heads-up, the gray line can sometimes be hard to see.

In other words, you mayhave to hunt monstersthat aren’t part of the monster tree you’re progressing through for a specific weapon to become available.
