S+ Tier Spells
These spells received the highest ranking due to their overwhelming power and usefulness in battle. While you will spend a lot of time exploring Hogwarts castle and the massive Highlands area surrounding it, you will also spend a lot of time in battle. Whether you are taking out a poacher’s camp or defeating the Pensieve Guardian in one of the Keeper’s trials, having powerful spells at your disposal is vital as it can be the difference between life and death.
Avada Kedavrais the most powerful of the three as it can one-hit kill any enemy in the game.Ancient Magicis not quite as powerful on larger enemies like trolls and area bosses, but it still packs a punch and can cut even the biggest health bars in half. And finally,Petrificus Totaliscan one-hit any Dark Wizard or Goblin enemy by sneaking up behind them and remaining unnoticed.

S Tier Spells
The S Tier spells are made up of the most powerful and functional combat spells. Each of these spells will be regularly used in combat due to their effectiveness in many combat situations and their short or non-existent cooldown.
Ancient Magic Throwcan be used to pick up objects and hurl them at enemies, capable of instant kills and massive damage to an enemy’s health. This spell has no cooldown, but it is limited by however many throwable items are lying around.Bombardais a heavy damage spell that explodes when it connects, capable of hitting multiple enemies and blasting them away.Confringocan hit a single enemy with a bolt of fire and can cause splash damage when upgraded. AndDiffindowill slice through an enemy, causing massive damage, and can be upgraded to hit multiple enemies in a line.

Outside these damage-type spells, one of the best spells you’ll use isProtego. Functioning as your shield, it protects you from most attacks, and when combined with a well-timed parry, you’ll castStupefy, which does significant damage and incapacitates your enemy. And finally,Reveliois a non-damage spell, but it is highly essential, as its spell category suggests. When cast, you will be able to see any puzzle items, locked doors, chests, throwable objects, and loot. You will likely run around casting this spell like a madman in nearly every situation, which is why it made the S Tier list.

A Tier Spells
This tier of spells has a nice mix of modest damage, support, and utility.Expelliarmusallows you to rip the wands out of even the strongest dark wizard’s hand, or the weapons from your non-wizard enemies.DecendoandDepulsoare the most powerful force-type spells, allowing you to smash an enemy into the ground while causing splash damage, or blast them into each other or off a cliff, respectively.
CrucioandImperioare the other two curses, outside Avada Kedavra, that you can learn in the game, and both are very useful support-type spells. Crucio inflicts damage over time on the enemy you hit but is most effective when combined with other attacks as it will spread damage to multiple enemies. Imperio on the other hand is able to take over an enemy’s mind, stopping even some of the most powerful enemies from attacking you, and forcing them to attack their comrades for you.

Transformationis the final control-type spell you will learn, and will transform the enemy it hits into a random object like a barrel. While it doesn’t do direct damage on its own, it does allow you to then pick up that object and hurl it at someone, damaging the initial enemy and anyone they hit. Upgrades will also allow you to transform them into explosive barrels and maximize the damage.
And finally,Disillusionmentallows you to be mostly invisible. This spell is highly effective in avoiding conflict, but also is paired well with the one-hit spell, Petrificus Totalis. When used correctly, you can take out an entire group of enemies without ever being noticed. This spell is also useful for opening certain doors and chests and plays a role in many main quests.

While it isn’t the most powerful spell, it is highly effective in crowd control, especially against enemies weak to fire like spiders and inferi.
BasicCastis naturally going to be the most frequent attack spell you use. It does not require a cooldown and is modestly strong in damage. It also is used to chain together long attack combos, allowing you to never let the enemy recover while you obliterate them.LeviosoandAcciowill both immobilize an enemy in the air, with the latter pulling them to you. These pair well with other attack spells like Descendo or Depulso, and can be upgraded to grab multiple enemies at once. They are also very commonly used in puzzle-solving and platforming scenarios, making them a great choice to have regularly equipped.

C Tier Spells
These spells are likely not going to be used as often, but serve their purpose in functionality.Alohomoraallows you to unlock doors and chests. The former is more effective in this regard as it will slow them to a near stop and lasts longer. While the latter will also be useful in some puzzles. It also is useful in dispelling Devil’s Snare, and in solving moth mirror puzzles and certain Merlin Trials.
