Usually, when a developer creates a game, they want as many people as possible to like and play it, which is logical, right? That’s not the case if you’re an artist like Hideo Kojima.

In the case ofDeath Stranding 2: On the Beach, Kojima changed it since people liked the game too much.

Kojima Changed Death Stranding 2 Since It Was Getting Too Mainstream

This bit of news was revealed by Woodkid (real name Yoann Lemoine), who is the composer for Death Stranding 2. In an interview withRolling Stone, Woodkid revealed that Kojima had concerns about the game since people liked it too much, which prompted the video game legend to alter something since it wasn’t “polarizing enough.”

Woodkid mentioned, “There’s a key moment where we had a discussion, probably halfway [through] when we were doing the game, where he came to me and he said, “We have a problem.” Then he said, “I’m going to be very honest, we have been testing the game with players and the results are too good. They like it too much. That means something is wrong; we have to change something.” And he changed stuff in the script and the way some crucial stuff [happens] in the game because he thought his work was not polarizing and not triggering enough emotions. And he said, “If everyone likes it, it means it’s mainstream. It means it’s conventional. It means it’s already pre-digested for people to like it. And I don’t want that. I want people to end up liking things they didn’t like when they first encountered it, because that’s where you really end up loving something. And that was really a lesson for me; not doing stuff to please people, but to make them shift a little bit and move them.”

Death Stranding 2 Review Embargo Lift Signals Confidence In Kojima’s Sequel

You’ll have plenty of time from the reviews to the game’s release to read and think about the game.

While this might sound absurd to most, it’s not entirely shocking, given that Kojima has always marched to the beat of his own drum, and this is what makes each of his games an experience.

If I were you, I’d cherish this, since Kojima has already said that when it comes to future Death Stranding games,he’ll most likely pass it off to another Kojima Productions developer, given his plate is already full.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be released on June 26 exclusively on the PS5.
