Of all the themes presented inAttack on Titan, the exploration of humanity is easily the most intriguing. None of the characters are confined to the categories of “heroes” or “villains” as their motivations stem from the need to survive in an apocalyptic world. However, Eren and his followers were downright villainous with their twisted and narrow perceptions.

Eren’s biggest ally, Floch Forster, had great qualities to lead his comrades in stressful times. As admirable as his qualities were, he used them for all the wrong reasons. His journey from a side character in the Survey Corps to the harbinger of bloodshed was interesting but horrifying.
Here’s an exploration of how Erwin’s speech brought out the worst in Floch and gave him the confidence to be Eren’s biggest ally in ensuing a mass genocide.

Floch Forster was Eren’s biggest ally inAttack on Titan
Floch Forster was a member of the Survey Corps and belonged to the same generation as Eren and the others. In the initial stages of Attack on Titan, Floch’s role and scenes were few and far between. He was a coward and often expressed displeasure with the behavior of his peers. For instance, he was annoyed with the childish bickering between Eren and Jean.
Even Hajime Isayama Regretted Making This Mistake, 3 Things That Ruined Attack on Titan’s Uprising Arc
His character underwent a huge change after the Survey Corps charged towards the Beast Titan. That particular eventwas made possible because of Erwin’s speech, which both highlighted the vanity and importance of his last mission. Immediately after that event, we saw a glimpse of Floch’s uprising as the villain. He vehemently opposed Levi’s decision to save Armin over Erwin.
Floch was the only person who knew Eren’s real plan and was supportive of it. He started identifying as a Yeagerist, who was ready to do anything for his homeland. While his devotion was admirable, the extent to which he was willing to push himself was far from it. He was Eren’s biggest ally who was blinded by the idea of a true paradise.

Floch was nothing but a violent and manic villain
Floch was able to create a faction that worshiped Eren and his ideals. And those who were useless to his mission or a hindrance to it were killed without a second thought. The ruthlessness was unexpected, from the Floch we knew at the beginning, so his journey to the ultimate villain was fascinating. Edits on the internet that show the highlights of his journey, and his emergence as a villain glorify his descent to evil.
It was similar to the shock that fans felt with Eren; however, it would be unfair to remember Floch as anything but a horrible human. A Reddit thread explained the idea by dissecting the good and bad parts of Floch’s character.

Floch was more than ready to kill anyone and everyone who didn’t align with his motivations. He went to extreme lengths for Eldia, yet didn’t budge while hurting or killing his fellow Eldians. He was ready to kill Levi, who was pivotal to humanity’s survival. Floch’s extremities are what makes him a truly evil human at heart, and that’s what he deserves to be remembered as.
