TheDragon Ballfranchise’s popularity is second to none. Akira Toriyama’s story-building and character designs have made him one of the greatest mangaka ever. But massive popularity often brings new controversies. Like Newton’s third law, every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

Even though there has never been any controversy surrounding the mangaka, the working staff seems to be involved in tons of them. One person who was part of a controversy was Goku’s English voice actor Sean Schemmel. Goku is a kind soul. It is strange how a pure soul got a controversial voice actor.
Sean Schemmel Is Involved In Several Controversies
There is hardly any anime fan who does not like Son Goku. Apart from being the face of a$23 billion franchise, he has a pure soul and cares for his friends unconditionally. But his English voice actor is the opposite of it. Sean Schemmel voiced Son Goku in Funimation’s version. Even though he sounds chill and nice, he bears a different personality. Many fans have accused him of being egotistical.
It can be understood that he has a big ego, considering not everyone gets the chance to save Earth on multiple occasions. But his negative resume also includes him being homophobic. Rekieta Law, a well-known YouTube channel, held a livestream a few years back. In that live stream, he revealed the voice actor’s homophobic nature. Schemmel used the word ‘Fa*got’ multiple times and was heard laughing as he was making these lewd comments.

There was also a rumor that Sean Schemmel, along with otherDragon Ballvoice actors, staged the seual harassment allegations against Vic Mignogna, Broly’s voice actor. He did it because they did not like him. Later, the seual allegations were deemed false, but it was already late since Mignogna had already lost his job. There have also been claims by certain fans that there was some unwanted touching by Schemmel during meet-and-greets. But there is no official proof of it.
Fans React To Sean Schemmel Controversy
TheDragon Ballfranchise boasts millions of followers worldwide. The franchise began its journey four decades ago and is one reason why the anime and manga industry went mainstream. Whenever there is a controversy surrounding their favorite anime, they are the first to comment. In Sean Schemmel’s controversy, they took their discussion to Reddit. Different person different views, but most found the voice actor to be problematic.
Sean Schemmel is a popular household name in theDragon Ballfandom. The controversies leave a negative impact on the fans. They always want the best for their favorite anime. Someone like Schemmel makes them more concerned. The voice actor is still very much a part of theFunimationteam and continues to provide voice to Son Goku. Till now, there has been no news about replacing him.

Dragon Ballcan be streamed on Crunchyroll.
